I am deeply concerned by the treatment I received at this hotel on 12/28/25. I checked in around 4:40 PM for a reservation my friend had made and paid for as a Christmas gift for myself and my son. We are originally from DuPage County, IL, but now live a 4.5 hour drive away, so this trip was meant to be a special visit back home.
At check-in, I was asked for my ID and a credit card, of course. My card was charged, and I assumed it was a standard incidental hold. When I asked for clarification, the receptionist told me it was the charge for the room itself. I immediately texted my friend to confirm she had not also been charged, as she had stated the room was already paid for.
My friend informed me that she had completed check-in remotely and that I should be assigned to room 402. However, the key envelope I was given listed room 212. Before going to the room, I returned to the desk to politely clarify both the room discrepancy and the charge so I could accurately relay the information to my friend.
While I was calmly asking for clarification, the receptionist interrupted me, spoke over me, and raised her voice. I asked respectfully for the opportunity to finish my question. Her tone remained dismissive and hostile. At that point, I felt uncomfortable and unsafe, so I requested to be checked out and asked for a receipt.
She responded that I would still be charged for the night. While waiting, i asked for a manager & I began recording for my safety. The receptionist did not provide a receipt, did not contact a manager, and instead called the police to have me escorted off the property because I was “ignorant”. She never asked me to leave; I had already stated I was leaving and was only waiting for documentation.
Two police cars arrived while I waited in my car for my friend. By the time I left, a 3rd police car had arrived. This was an unnecessary escalation and a waste of public resources.
I have recordings of the interaction, as well as knowledge that there is a security camera at the front desk. The recordings show me maintaining a reasonable distance, posing no threat, repeatedly asking for a manager, and requesting a receipt. In the recordings, the receptionist changes her explanation multiple times & acknowledges she changes explanations shouting “what’s the big deal?!”. Then, In regards to my request for a receipt, first she states she would not give me anything, then says no receipt existed, then says one would be provided at a later checkout despite my request to check out immediately. The police just allowed her to lie & didn’t ask for a manager.
This confusion and refusal to provide basic documentation is what led to the situation escalating. The employee acted unprofessionally and weaponized law enforcement against me as a BIPOC single-mother with an Islamic name. I would not recommend this location while this individual remains employed to anyone who identifies as such.
I have had consistently positive experiences at other Hilton properties this year (traveling for work) and do not believe this incident reflects Hilton as a corporation, but is a reflection of this woman’s distorted values. I trust that Hilton will address this matter appropriately to ensure other guests, including children, are not subjected to similar treatment.
I am sick to my stomach that my son had to witness this.
I have taken the following steps:
1. Contacted my credit card company
2. Submitted a complaint with Hilton corporate
3. Filed a report with US DOJ Civil Rights
4. Filed a complaint with the IL Dept of Human Rights
This is how we take back our America, by not allowing people like this to slide. Holding them accountable, utilize the law/resources & record when possible.
Both my parents fought for US Freedom & their sacrifices will not be in vain. I will always speak up. I will always do what is right.
Be safe everyone.
