The last few times me and my hubby have visited we always end up choosing the Port Orlean sister resorts! We stayed at Riverside again this past week for the holiday parties and even during the end of the year, it's green and warm. We love the boat transportation to Disney springs and the subtle theming in the rooms (unless you stay in those pretty Royal guest rooms!) I wish I could live there! Staying here feels like living in a quiet community! The food court has some sweet staff as well, we had a sweet lady named Diane who saw us two separate days and seeing her before we left was wonderful.
The resort is so big and beautiful and a hidden gem, we haven't even explored all of it yet!
I'd say the only downside to this resort is the amount of bus stops, depending on which stop you're at, the bus may fill up at prior stops before reaching you on those busy days and cause delays. Usually it's fine! But we had to do a bit of waiting to reach the parks for the event parties! We personally didn't mind since we weren't rushing to do stuff, but if you are worried about making the most of your time and event ticket, it'd be best to catch a bus before the park allows party guests in and just wait at the park!
The ladies at reception were great. Walked us through check-in and did everything they could to ensure our 2 rooms were near each other on the 1st floor for mobility issues. The room was spacious enough to accommodate a mobility scooter.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The resort is beautiful with easy access to the bus depot and boat dock.
The food was some of the better we'd had on our trip. The Boathouse Restaurant was great. Our server ensured that we understood the dining plan and recommended delicious dishes. The Riverside Mill Food Court had great options too.
I liked that the laundry area was close to our room (near a quiet pool).
We stayed in Alligator Bayou. We get the room with the 5th sleeper so our girls don't have to share a bed. They love it!! I love staying there because it's so quiet and it doesn't feel like we're in a Hotel. It feels more like a private apartment with a private entrance. The pools are great you can have a quiet swim at the pool near the rooms or go to the main one and enjoy all the activities they offer with slides, a kid pool and hot tub. There's also a bar, playground and corn hole. If that's not enough there's also bike, and surrey bike rentals. You can also take a horse and carriage ride. This place is great!!

The resort itself is beautiful and the cast members are great. We loved the boat access to Disney Springs and the grounds.
Our issue was the room- do not book a royal room here. While the princess decor and headboards are beautiful, they are extremely outdated. Wall outlet covers were not secure, no USB ports in the room, old TV’s (ours was on Spanish news when we arrived), multiple chips and stains on furniture, our plugs fell right out of the outlets, ironing board was ripped and stained and the AC was caked with dust and what looked like mold. The beds were comfortable though, and the room was spacious with enough room for four. The bed closest to the bath should be moved over, allowing more than six inches to get out of bed without hitting the wall. Storage was also lacking- there were three drawers in the dresser and a shelf above the bathroom sinks.
We were on a bounce back offer and still paid almost $900 for two nights here which was way overpriced. After asking the front desk we were told all royalty rooms were like this and were due for renovation next year.
The location of the total rooms were close to the main lobby. We ate at the quick service location and the food was good but they are very busy in the evening. We waited almost 40 minutes for our mobile order.
Title: Found Syringe in Bed—Birthday Ruined at Port Orleans Riverside
⭐ 1 Star
We booked Port Orleans Riverside for our autistic son’s 7th birthday—our first Disney trip. It’s supposed to be the safest, happiest place for families, but what actually happened was beyond disappointing.
On our very first morning, I found a used syringe stuck in the bed crease where my son had just slept. Shocked and worried, I called the front desk right away, expecting urgent help. No one came for a long time, so I had to call again. When a maid finally arrived, I took video of her picking it up, and even she agreed it looked used and the cap was missing. She was great—polite and genuinely sorry—but management didn’t seem to care.
We were told to wait for a manager, so we sat in our room for hours on my son’s birthday morning, missing all his plans at the park. Eventually John from the front desk called and, instead of being concerned, he tried to downplay it and said the syringe was “brand new” and not a big deal. He was wrong and the maid confirmed It looked used and and either way it doesn’t mean it belonged anywhere near a guest bed, especially with a kid.
John offered us a different room, which was a relief until we got there and found out it was a clear downgrade—just a parking lot view, way further from the pool my son was so excited about. John had promised us it would be the same. After everything, we just gave up and stayed in the original room.
All the other staff we met were friendly and helpful, but John’s attitude made us feel like our family’s concerns didn’t matter. We didn’t come here looking for freebies—we just wanted a safe, magical birthday for our son, and got nothing close to that. This was heartbreaking and absolutely not the Disney standard.
Think twice before booking here, especially if you expect management to step up when it matters.
