The grounds of The Cottages is lovely. There is a well lit dock to fish from, and at low tide you can find snails and hermit crabs in the sandy area beneath it. The walking path through The Cottages is nice to walk you dog along and to view Florida's nature (large lizards, etc.). The owner is very sweet. As for the rooms of The Cottages, just be aware that these are 1940s Army barracks (great history here!), so they are much like camp cabins that have been repaired. There is running water and electricity. The flooring in Cottage #6 (dolphin cottage) was upgraded with laminate, and the full kitchen has granite. There are a few gaps in the woodwork where outside bugs come in, much like a cabin. The doors don't close properly. But all in all it was clean. I didn't have any allergy issues, which is better than I can say for most hotels I've stayed in. I think Cottage #6 is in need of more repairs, and I can't speak for the other cottages.
The decor sticks to the 1940s feel.
They have window AC units installed, which was nice.
We stayed for a few nights during November 2025. It wasn't busy; I think 3 other cars were in the lot. It was the week of Thanksgiving.

The grounds are really nice. The brickwork on the pathways and patios are really well done. Unfortunately, the cabins leave a lot to be desired. They're in really rough shape. We only stayed in one, but given the exterior appearance of the rest they're likely to be in the same condition.
None of the doors worked properly. The front door required significant force pushing it in to unload the deadbolt and get it to move. Even then, you could only get the deadbolt maybe 1/4" into the slot. The back door was impossible to deadbolt, and the knob was falling apart from previous guests pulling on it so hard trying to get the deadbolt to work.
Interior doors weren't much better. The bathroom and bedroom doors wouldn't latch no matter what. The toilet was also crooked and the seat wouldn't stay up.
Rooms just have hard vinyl flooring so sand gets everywhere and is always on the bottom of your feet.
The kitchen was infested with sugar ants. We had to put the trash in the freezer to keep it away from the ants. We took a cookie sheet and filled it with water to place out food containers in the middle of to make a most to keep the ants away.
The dock was really nice though.
