Security issue: belongings disappeared from our locked room.
We stayed here for two nights (Jan 3–Jan 5). I booked two rooms — mine was 14220 and my aunt’s was 14219. She flew in from overseas and we brought her to DC to visit. The first night was fine, but the second day changed everything.
On the morning of Jan 4, my aunt left her phone charger plugged into the wall in her room, with her international adapter attached. When we came back later that day, the charger was gone. Not misplaced — just gone.
I called the front desk right away. They told me housekeeping was already done and that they would email the housekeeping manager. They told me to check back the next morning, which I did, and they still had no update — just “we’ll contact them again.”
Then they said they would “try to find it in lost and found.” That made no sense, because we hadn’t even checked out yet. How is something considered “lost” inside an occupied room? And if housekeeping really removed it, why would they put it in lost and found instead of leaving it in the room? My aunt’s slippers were still there, so it was obvious someone was coming back. This is exactly why the situation feels off.
We came here to sightsee, not to chase down a charger. It wasn’t expensive, but it was personal and she needed the international adapter to charge her phone. You don’t expect things to disappear from a locked hotel room, especially at a so-called nice hotel.
What bothered me more was how customer service handled it. They kept insisting that their staff “would not steal.” Okay, then where did it go? Chargers don’t vanish on their own. Either housekeeping removed it or someone else with room access took it, and neither answer feels good or safe.
Overall, this experience left a bad taste. There are plenty of hotels in DC. I would not recommend this one. If a simple charger isn’t safe, I wouldn’t trust leaving anything more important behind.
The location of this hotel is very convenient, close to the water and the National Mall with many museums and monuments. Too bad during our visit, the entire National Mall was blockaded. The overall theme and decor of the hotel, lobby and guestrooms were modern and chic, with bright and colorful LED lighting. Rooms are good sized with pretty new furniture and bathroom hardware. Overall feeling was warm and welcoming.
The only downside was that during our stay, my phone charger and the international travel adapter went missing. It was plugged in the wall outlet the first night, but it disappeared the next day. We mentioned this issue to the frontdesk, and was promised that the roomkeepers will not take anything from the guests from the room. They said they will keep an eye at lost and found, and let us know if our charger appears. Very odd!
Pros:
The hotel is located very close to the National Mall. 5 minutes walking to the nearest Smithsonian museum. The Spy Museum is almost next door to the hotel.
The room is very clean; it has a good layout and a very comfortable bed. The shower is spacious and has optional showerheads.
A coffee machine, a tea kettle, a small fridge, and a safe box are very beneficial.
The personnel is very attentive to customers and friendly.
Cons:
The valve for the hot water in the sink was not working. Instead of going to explore the Smithsonian, we had to wait for the service guy to come and fix the plumbing.
Breakfast was good and sufficient to keep us stuffed for most of the day. So we could go and enjoy the museums. However, we saw the bill for the breakfast for $83 for 3 of us on days 1 and 3 and the bill for $96 on day 2. Especially on day 2, the orange juice canister was empty, and yogurts were not on the counter. Luckily the breakfast was included in our stay, so we didn't have to sort out why the bill was higher for the less food and drink availability.
The TV channels glitched all the time. "Glitched" means the picture on the screen is not stable and breaks into square pieces every 2 minutes.
Conclusion:
This type of problem can happen in every hotel. We just wanted to stay positive and enjoy visiting Washington DC.
Do we recommend this hotel? Absolutely YES.
This is a really cool place to stay in the city! The architecture is amazing! We did a datenight here and went to the Spy Museum out front in the evening and took a short walk to the Holocaust Museum in the morning. We had a lovely young lady at the front desk offer to show us multiple rooms to try and accommodate the best view of the mall. Looking out the window you could see from the Washington Monument to the Capitol building. We enjoyed the restaurant as well for breakfast and cocktails and received wonderful service. The lobby is simple, but nice, and coffee is right there! Great place to stay if you are seeing a show At Anthem as well. We valet here and walk through Benjamin Banner park rather than deal with wharf traffic after an event let's out.
You can also access the metro station through the mall in the basement, even though there isn't much retail still living down there. Just make sure you pay attention as the access to the metro can be a little confusing.
Pro Tip- Be sure to ask for a view of the mall, it's worth leaning into the window and taking in the view if it's available.
5 night, family stay. Overall nice room with a mini fridge, two king beds, and engineered laminate flooring. Restaurant, bar, and Starbucks on premises. First the positives... The front desk staff were great. Everyone was very helpful. Restaurant food was very good and we ate there every night but one. Room was clean. Valet parking on site and the guys brought the car up quickly. The hotel is located more or less south of the Smithsonian Castle, so that puts it within walking distance to just about everything including restaurants on The Wharf. The Spy Museum is across the plaza. So everywhere from Lincoln or Jefferson Memorials to the Library of Congress and points in between are walkable ~ 1 to 1.5 miles away. And since street parking is almost non-existent, leave the car in the hotel valet lot and walk. Now the hotel negatives... In a word, consistency. We never had the right amount of washclothes or towels for our guests each night. Sometimes only one washcloth for several people, sometimes only one towel. Fortunately the front desk has access to extras. Still, there's no excuse for not leaving standard towel stock each day. Restaurant service was okay depending on guests. Larger bar/dinner crowds meant longer wait times for everything. The portions and ingredients of the meals differed each night. Sometimes the salads would have all the ingredients expected, sometimes they didn't. And the size of the salads were always different. Also, the salmon tended to be undercooked (twice it was nearly raw at the thick end) every time we ordered it. Also, we were emphatically told we could not order an omelette with our Diamond Member credit, only to find out a few days later that info was wrong. (We still don't know if you get made to order eggs or have to eat the scrambled eggs on the buffet with the food credit.) Some in our party just ended up going to Starbucks for eggs and a drink at ⅓ the cost. Additionally, the breakfast foods were always like warm at best. Most days the eggs were room temp or cooler. That was frustrating. All the dinner items did taste good but were expensive for what you get. And on that note, valet parking was $65 a night which was expensive. Despite some issues, I would definitely stay here again for the location, but might consider different parking and food options.
