My one-star deals entirely with my 10 minute interaction with the manager at checkout. But first let me describe the property. This is one of two hotels in downtown Saratoga (which is a pretty bougie, not diverse village in Silicon Valley). We wanted to stay there because it was quiet and we thought it would be a nice place to land before heading to Big Sur. The rooms are fine. The building itself is dated..ie the elevator takes FOREVER. I also would say that our room (404) was directly across from accessible doors outside, which didn't feel safe. The price was on the higher side, especially for a Hilton property which I view as a lower quality brand than Marriott or other parent brands. We paid nearly $400 for one night, off-season with only a few other guests in the hotel. I am a Marriott Ambassador, their highest level of loyalty. I am not familiar with Hilton but I am a Gold member due to my credit card status. When my wife and I checked in, the gentleman told us because of my Gold status we would get $15 each or $30 towards food & beverage for our stay. Because we are not Hilton regulars, we trusted his word. We got 2 cookies that evening ($6) and for breakfast we got 2 chia seed puddings ($18). Clearly, we were below the $30 threshold. However when we checked out, we were not given the credit but were told that the credit wasn't for the entirety of the stay and needed to be used in one event -- which was not shared with us at the time of check in. The front desk woman got her manager who may possibly be the LEAST CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUSED, unhappy woman we have encountered in a long time. We explained what the check-in gentleman told us the night before. She immediately challenged us and told us we were wrong. She was rude, belittling and frankly just a really unpleasant human. She acted as if we were supposed to know the rules, when they were explained to us incorrectly by HER STAFF. Why is this our problem that your staff don't know how the $15 per person credit works??!! While the actual premises were overpriced and mediocre at best (empty water bottles in our room, hair on the floor, uncomfortable pillows, closet-sized fitness room, antiquated elevators), her attitude was despicable and not remotely customer service focused or kind. For the record, we were contesting less than $5. This amount was on principal, not on price. I would NEVER stay here again and I hope a regional manager or someone who understands how guests are treated by front desk staff and management leaves a strong impression. I genuinely hope that she is reminded firmly of what customer service means.

The location of this hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the staff are just as wonderful. Special shout out to Eugene and Aaron for being incredibly accommodating during our wedding stay. The only downside is that breakfast isn’t complimentary and coffee service ends at 10 a.m. Otherwise, it’s an outstanding hotel and we had an amazing experience overall.
