The only choices we have for Cable TV In Richmond are Xfinity, DIsh Network, and DirectTV. I have never tried satelllite TV for two reasons: I don't some ugly dish on my roof or in my yard, AND I have heard people complain about the unreliability in rainstorms.
I have had Comcast/Xfinity for years for both TV and Internet, but was approached by a Frontier sales rep in my neighborhood in August of 2025 saying my neighborhood was getting fiber internet. I had always heard how much faster it was, so I decided to give it a try for that reason, along with the fact that streaming service have now outgunned cable almost everywhere. I was not told at the time of the sale that Frontier offered YouTubeTV for $80/mo. on top of the $55/mo internet bill. I had my doubt from the day of the cable burying since the ground was very dry and hard and their Ditch Witch could barely go down 2" to bury a GLASS FIBER line that was about 3/16" diameter. I called to have them rebury it months later after the ground got a bit softer and they sent out sometime with a garden trowel to dig a tiny bit deeper only on a one foot section that had been exposed above ground...unbelieveable. Again, this is Frontier I am talking about. I have really warmed up to XFinity after my bad experiences with Frontier in just my first four months trial period.
I did some homework before coming back to Xfinity. I found out that this particular store is not owned or operated by Xfinity, it is managed by BlueFox...a third party contractor. I didn't really mind since everyone I have dealt with has been extremely helpfulas humans - regardless what logo is on their uniform shirt or jacket. I can tell you that the main type of person that comes to this store and elderly types paying their cable bill in person at the kiosk. They can be very challenging to work with since they weren't raised up using technology like cell phones or internet. I would guess that over 50% of this type of client still has a land line phone. Yes, hard to believe, right? I was in this store for close to an hour getting help with a third party app on my new phone and was able to observe each employee interacting with customers. Taylor, Mansa, Megan, and Krystal all should be commended for how versatile and knowledgable they are, as well as how patient they are with difficult customers.
As I said in the beginning, we don't have many choices in this town, but if we did, Xfinity/BlueFox would rise to the top since they have a physical store with real people who care for customers, and love their jobs.
P.S. - I have top tier internet speed (1Gig, top channel tier, and two phones and a tablet ), and as of the start of 2026, I am paying right around $300/mo total. Seems high...but this is the world we live in now. If I were to go back to fiber with Frontier, I would have to get YouTubeTV, Peacock Premium, YouTube Premium (I HATE ads), NetFlix, Disney+, AND AppleTV to watch the variety of content I get on cable. All these combined would be about the same price...but not under one list of channels. Under all the different apps you would have to have on your smart TV. I'm a GenX'er and still can'tget used to having more than a couple apps on my TV, and I refuse to talk to Alexa, Siri, and whatever other inanimate object I am subjected to.
If you read this entire review...Thanks. You deserve good things to happen to you today!
