I was experiencing a stressful 48 hour gap where I had to return my orange iPhone 17 Pro before receiving the new dark blue replacement. With work at an on-site lab with co-workers coming in from overseas to assist, not having my phone was kind of a nightmare. When I finally got my new iPhone, I started restoring it from the most recent iCloud backup. What I didn't realize was you need your old iPhone to transfer the eSIM card and carrier settings to a new iPhone. That information does not get backed up on iCloud.
So I had to find a Verizon store to get my line activated on the new phone. I didn't know there was a store on El Camino just south of Bowers/Kiely in Santa Clara. It's nestled inside a dense strip mall.
A rep came in to assist me and we began the process of loading up my account info with an email verification link. Even though my iPhone had no cellular service, the store guest WiFi allowed me to receive the verification email. The rep used my iPhone's IMEI number found under "General/About" to send the eSIM to my phone from his carrier side tablet. After about a minute or two, the eSIM came online and cellular service was restored! I thanked the rep and left.
When I woke up this morning, I saw an unexpected email notification that had apparently been sent while I was in-store. Something about "Device Protection" being added, which was not something that the rep discussed with me while I was in-store and I had definitely not requested. I logged into the Verizon app to confirm that an $18 per month charge had been added to my line without being mentioned by the rep. That's the type of thing if left unchecked would cost you hundreds of dollars over god knows how long before being discovered. I wouldn't have even known if I hadn't seen that email.
Whether that feature was added by default to a new eSIM activation or manually added by the rep, I don't know. After visiting stores like this, I advise logging into your account and make sure no unrequested services have been added to your account because those charges really add up over time. One extra star for helping me activate my phone, however I was really disappointed to see a deceptive $18 per month device protection added without my consent or any discussion while in-store.

Because of Christian ( Business Representative) I have to pay double price on my services!!
Apparently there is no one except Christian to help me out with Business account and I have never been able to meet him there.
He is always out or he has some emergencies. No callbacks, direct VM!!!

I went to two other Verizon locations and both of them had people who helped me that made me feel like they were doing me a favor and could not explain my concerns on what appeared to be a price discrepancy from my call to coorporate. I was finally going to get a new phone. Both these first locations so I left both of them and went to this third location. I also did not like dealing with corporate. I called corporate more than once and it sounded like I called a call center in India since everyone i spoke to had an Indian accent. I want to support local locations when price seems to be the same regardless where I buy. I will credit both these locations looking back that they said to do the data transfer at home but one especially didn't actually know this process since he told me to use a computer instead of the Smart function in the phones. This location off El Camino had a salesperson, Tim, who was very pleasant to deal with. He even addressed me as "Sir". A manager also spoke to me but I forgot her name. Both of them patiently answered my questions and even looked into and addressed my concern of the price difference without acting offended that I would question it. I bought my phone here and would recommend anyone who has had a bad experience at a Verizon location should try this one and ask for Tim. I am one of those who will travel for service and really dislike being made to feel bad for spending my money for poor service.
