The CAC is nice. I moved to Denver a little over a year ago and hadn’t found a gym until I came to the CAC. The CAC was recommended to me by several people and I agree with their recommendation. I was a member at Equinox in Dallas for 3+ years and I think the CAC is at least as good, if not better, and bigger than the Dallas Highland Park Equinox, plus it is cheaper (with one caveat - I pay* for parking and that can theoretically add up over the month to meet or exceed the Equinox membership costs). I went at a peak time - 5:30 pm on a Tuesday - and it was busy but still much less crowded than what I’ve experienced at Equinox at peak times.
There are some opportunities for improvement - none of which I thought were deal breakers, but I saw several reviews complaining about the CAC value for the money so I want to highlight what could be better for people who are used to nicer gyms. 1) There’s not really designated stretching/foam rolling/floor areas, just a couple of “de facto”/makeshift-y areas where people seem to throw down mats and do their workouts 2) I couldn’t find a water fountain, but I did see a spot in the locker room to fill up water bottles 3) The toilets are right next to the showers in the men’s locker rooms so they are kind of wet and also not very private because they aren’t in a separate room 4) The shower soaps etc are pretty basic and the shower situation isn’t the nicest (it’s not bad) but there are plenty of showers 5) The floor in the locker room is slippery. Even with mats in some places, they don’t have enough coverage (I slipped but didn’t fall. Be careful!) 6) The rail to the hot tub is broken, which isn’t ideal for a slippery place, or when you can’t see the underwater steps/ramp well.
Despite its issues, the CAC locker room has three big perks: a steam room, a sauna and a hot tub. I’ve only ever seen gym’s with steam rooms or saunas. Equinox only had a steam room.
*Regarding the parking - My spouse and I park on the street. It’s 4 bucks for 2 hours and you can extend the time from the app on your phone if you stay longer. There is a garage that has some** amount discounted if you get your ticket validated (it might be free for two hours?), but my husband tried it once and stayed about 10 minutes past the validated window and was charged like $40, so we don’t risk it.
**The fees may be different for people who have different memberships/passes from ours. We are Wellhub members, so we have access to the CAC, but aren’t CAC members. Maybe the parking fees/rules are different for CAC members or day pass holders. Definitely factor in potential parking costs if you are considering CAC while you are shopping around (but also figure out the parking rules and how to do the parking validation correctly, because we haven’t yet 😂).
