  I’m a regular at Academy Sports and have always shopped there without issue. Today, I went in to try on a few items I had already selected. When I went to the changing room, I pressed the button for assistance. After a few minutes, a staff member arrived and was very polite. However, as I was entering the door (which has a self-closing hinge), it swung back and slammed against my hand, breaking the skin and causing bleeding. I went back out and pressed the button again, hoping for a Band-Aid so I could continue trying on clothes. The staff member brought one, but then the manager (not named Natalie) approached. Her first question was “What happened?” I explained the door and showed her how it slams sharply. She just stared at me, then walked away to talk to another manager, offering no help, concern, or solution. It was a very unpleasant experience. I expected at least some empathy or assistance, not a focus on assigning blame. The customer service in this situation was extremely disappointing.

  Terrible customer service rude people who do not care about you at all and just want you out of the way. Like if you don’t like people don’t get a job at customer service

  If I could give a -0 I would every single time I come in the store there is an issue. If there’s an item on sale and you get it off of that same shelf or rack that it’s Advertised as being on sale and there’s multiple of the same item on this same rack or shelf when you get to the register, they ring up at full price when you question it they say oh well it split one side is one price and one side is another there’s always an excuse. I can never walk in the store and buy what I intend to buy first of all they’re never stopped fully with all the sizes. The second of all you come in here you can’t get any help when you come in here and then you can’t seem to purchase what you’re trying to purchase because there’s an issue with the register. I’m not gonna pay $45 plus tax for something to your advertising for 2499. This is just blatant ridiculous and there was multiple of us back to back to back trying to purchase things that we’re having the same issue and it wasn’t all from the same department. It seems like corporate needs to come in and revamp the store and fix it and teach these people how to set these shelves or set these racks and not put sale signs up if the items aren’t on sale. It’s just getting ridiculous I’ll take my business somewhere else I used to love to come to academy, but I can’t stand it anymore

  I’m writing this as an aunt who is deeply upset about what my nephew experienced at this Academy location in Waxahachie, TX on Saturday, February 7, 2026. My brother-in-law took my 10-year-old nephew into the store for what should have been a simple return and a small purchase. Instead, they were kept in the store for nearly two hours while my brother-in-law was accused of wrongdoing over a return that was later confirmed to be legitimate. Hearing that my nephew had to witness his father being questioned and treated with suspicion was heartbreaking. What should have been a positive outing turned into a confusing and distressing experience for a child. Regardless of any internal policies, no child should ever be put in a position where they watch a parent be humiliated during a routine store visit. Situations like this leave lasting impressions, and families deserve better. I sincerely hope Academy leadership takes this incident seriously and ensures proper training and accountability so no other child has to experience this.
