However, when we returned the next day, another employee kindly explained that we could get 15% off by scanning a QR code—something the first employee never told us. The difference in treatment was disappointing and left us feeling unwelcome. Very unpleasant experience.

This is unfortunate as most of the employees we have ever encountered have always been extremely kind and helpful. My mom was trying to by some clothes for herself and at the checkout counter, this rude employee told her she could not purchase all the items. She was extremely dismissive, curt, and offered limited explanation as to why we were not allowed to purchase the items. This was a first time for my mom who shops at Ralph Lauren frequently, so it certainly caught her off guard. The rude employee spoke with extreme authority like she ran the place, and acted as if we were doing something wrong intentionally; when in fact, we were unaware of the policies in place. Some courtesy in the interaction could have gone a long way for her. Since speaking with a supervisor after the awful interaction with said employee, we now understand the policies and understand that the store has all the rights to place such policies. Thankful for the supervisor for explaining to us nicely. This was the tone of the conversation that needed to be had with the initial employee. I hope she gets some training on how to interact with customers or maybe she stays off the floor.
