- JDJustin Dragu1 day ago1.0I purchased a firearm off of academy’s online store and had it shipped to this location as I have many time before due to the great price and ease of the transaction. Today I went to pick the firearm up after receiving a email it was ready. I filled all paperwork for the background check via tablet and informed the employee working that I have a “U-Pin” for my background check. (I will not pass without it and there is not a way to process a U-Pin online like a normal background check which is why you have to call it in to TBI’s office) he did not know what that was. After him pushing the paperwork through anyways, I failed a few minutes later. He tried instructing me to file a dispute with TBI. I ask for him to call them as they have in the past and he told me they don’t have a phone number so I called them. The woman at the TBI office informed me the background check was performed incorrectly and that they need to call if a U-Pin is involved. She instructed me to have them redo the paperwork and call her so she could approve the transfer. They refused and told me it’s store policy that if you are denied, you must wait 31 days and try again. A woman named Kathy got involved (with an attitude) and called who I’m assuming was her boss. She then said that they will not make an exception even though it was their fault due to lack of training on how to perform a background check and told me to come back in 31 days. So even after TBI said it would be okay for them to resubmit the paperwork and call them immediately, Academy employees denied me a second background check that I even offered to pay for again guised under “store policy” when they were the ones that botched the paperwork, so now I have hundreds of dollars I have paid for this firearm and have to wait 31 more days to try and pick up again. I will file for a return and will pay extra money shopping somewhere else to avoid doing business with this store again. Disgusting attitudes, and lack of training of its employees will be its downfall. Employees names Curtis- performed and botched background check. And lied about not having TBI’s phone number. Kathy- informed me they will not make an exception due to their faults. Gross attitude and lies.
