I am writing this review to document an appalling and humiliating experience at this Academy Sports location that should never happen to any customer. I was falsely accused of stealing, publicly embarrassed, and removed from the store based on nothing more than a manager’s, Chris, assumption. While shopping, I observed the manager ask two other individuals to leave the store due to a cart overflowing with merchandise. I had no association with these individuals whatsoever. Despite this, the manager later confronted me and claimed he overheard me say, “he’s watching me,” and decided—without evidence—that I must be involved in theft. Based solely on that assumption, the manager took items directly out of my hands and told me to leave the store. No theft was witnessed. No merchandise was concealed. No proof existed. When I explicitly asked to have a conversation and requested that cameras be checked, the manager refused outright. He showed no interest in verifying facts, reviewing surveillance footage, or allowing me to explain myself. Instead of acting professionally or responsibly, he chose to escalate the situation, dismiss me, and treat me as though I was already guilty. This was not only humiliating, but completely unacceptable. Being accused of stealing is a serious allegation, and the manager handled it recklessly, without due diligence, and without basic respect for a customer. What is most disturbing is that the manager refused any opportunity to clarify or investigate, making it clear that his decision was final regardless of the truth. This demonstrates a troubling lack of training, judgment, and accountability. Customers should never be removed from a store based on speculation and overheard comments taken out of context. This experience was degrading and left me feeling targeted and disrespected. I have shopped at Academy Sports before, but after this incident, I am extremely hesitant to return. I strongly urge corporate leadership to review this incident and address how accusations are handled at this location, because no customer should ever be treated this way. On my way out I had a brief conversation with another employee, Cam who also said he was a manager. He said “to make things easy, I suggest you leave the store”. As I continued to attempt to plead my case, he gave me the opportunity to purchase my items. I purchased the items that I had originally intended to buy and as I am exiting, Cam did apologize. I am extremely frustrated with how this was handled by both managers and will also be reaching out to corporate. Until serious changes are made, I would caution others about shopping here.

The African American salesperson denied my niece to purchase a gun here. After he’s making her do things with the gun as if he’s teaching a CCW class. He in turn catered to a group of African American guys that had the area fuming with marijuana. So it’s safe for gangsters to purchase a gun from this place but not a female who just left the gun range today and trying to make a purchase for protection just like any one else. I will be reaching out to the news outlets and corporate!

The gun counter is a joke! The employees are rude, and slow. I can walk in the store with a concealed weapon on my hip but I can't walk out the door with a gun that was returned to from warranty work without waiting 20+ minutes for a manager to process it. The whole purchase experience, to the brand new gun that broke after firing 3 rounds through it.
