I would not recommend living at Ascend RVA at all. Don’t get me wrong there’s nice amenities but that’s really it. I never understood the point of having staff since they would never answer the phone. At times I shouldn’t have to constantly just go to the offices unannounced to get an answer to a question. I reside in Massachusetts so my form of communication to them are phone calls. I could call 5 times and get no answer, while my parents call from their jobs and decide to answer. The manager is not helpful either. I would call numerous of times to speak to her specifically but for some reason could never get through, nor did she even return my call. If you decide to live here make sure you document every little thing! because when it comes down to it they will try to hold your security deposit to pay for any and everything. Also make sure to keep an eye on your rent! My senior year living in this building was a disappointing.

Hello there-I don't leave many reviews but here is a one-sentenced message worth writing. This is not the place I envisioned my child to live.

i lived here for 3 years and i regret investing so much time into a space. I wish i moved to Parc View at the Commonwealth sooner. its a MILLION times better. Ascend is built terribly, the building is falling apart, and the staff is incredibly rude and unprofessional. they are SO rude and would constantly give me dirty looks daily , i constantly felt uncomfortable walking into my apartment. this place is ghetto. terrible location, terrible management, terrible maintenance. props to the bella at front desk (only good employee) and the cleaning lady, she was wonderful. no feeling of safety either. this apartment is a joke. if you’re a student, parc view at commonwealth is where you shouod live.

I would strongly advise against living at Ascend RVA. While the apartment itself was fine, the way management operates is completely unacceptable. The leasing office ignores emails and phone calls, and when it comes time to move out, they slam you with excessive and unfair fees.
In my case, I was charged hundreds of dollars for damage fees, despite leaving the place in good condition and documenting pre-existing damage when I moved in. Even after disputing these charges through the process outlined in the lease, management has not responded and when I went in person, they sent me a letter right after that I still have to pay for the damage fees.
It feels like this place preys on students and renters who don’t have a lot of resources to fight back. They take advantage of people, and rather than treating tenants fairly, they seem focused on squeezing every last dollar out of residents. I would even describe the management here as acting like "thieves" — taking money from students and renters through unfair charges and refusing to respond to disputes. They may think they can get away with it now, but behavior like this always comes back around.
⚠️ Especially for international students: I would not recommend this apartment under any circumstances. If you’re far from home and unfamiliar with the system here, you are even more vulnerable to unfair practices and ignored disputes. Please save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.
