First of all, it was fun to live at Patterson for a year with many great memories. Don't get me wrong, it located near the campus, making the walk to campus quite short and easy. Many students' apartments nearby don't allow to have pet(s) with you while you are there, but Patterson is not one of them. Washer and Dryer are included. AC worked great! There's a tiny gym on the first floor.
Many things to note though. My review here is just my personal opinions:
1. One of the elevators (the right one if you are in the lobby) had issues and the apartment didn't seem to address it. Not sure if you guys ever get "stucked" in it, but it happened to us. Like, you just walked into the elevator, it sunk a little, closed the door, and the elevator didn't even response after you pressed the button...
2. Many of these 5-star reviews are for the apartment review promotion, to us, it is quite biased and not greatly reflect the living experience here.
3. Our apartment was facing the 13th side, which is loud if students are back. Like, there's a bar a block away and drunk students just yelling in the middle of the night. (P.S. Another thing has nothing to do with this apartment, but you will face it if you live at the 13th side. The echoes tend to be loud because the hospital’s parking lot is located directly across the street.
4. The floor in the apartment squeak quite badly. It is not only the single spot, but various spots. Yes, floors on the hallway will squeak too! That's said, paying a decent amount of rent in the aged building is what you guys will experience.
5. Parking spaces are quite limited if you don't reserve it right ahead of time. There will be students who are gonna bring their cars, but you guys will mostly find a monthly parking nearby. Beforehand, we parked in the parking building right next to the building, but fyi, hospital will close this parking lot by the end of the year. I hate to say this, it is not quite safe to park in that building even though the hospital sends their "security" to check once in a while. Many folks' cars got broken into, and we were lucky enough to have our car's windows all in one piece after a year.
6. Patterson really had a weird package storage issues... This building is not that big, I bet managers don't want the UPS or FedEX drivers go up the floors for package delivery. Amazon drivers mostly delivered stuff to door. It is SUPER inconvenient! More in the next point.
7. The staff or manager nsometimes don't come to work on time or leave early without notice. Link to the last point, let's say the driver delivered packages around ~4:50 pm (office closes at 5 pm usually), the staff put these packages in the storage and ran out of the office. My wife or myself attempted to pick up the package before 5 pm, and no one is in the office despite the light was still on. It happened many times!!! Why don't you guys send the drivers up for packages delivery? Everyone can come up the building anyway without scanning their fob(s). I have delivery manager setup for both UPS and FedEX, indicating them to deliver the package in the front door, but they rarely do so.
8. Cannot recall whoever said this building is safe in the review. No security on site! Like ever. This building is equipped with Butterfly, a security access system, quite troublesome. Many of you guys may not know your names can appear on the screen with your apartment number. It is there! In a way, there's no privacy if you don't remove your name out of there. We changed us to only show our apartment number instead of our names. Earlier this year, a homeless guy tried to ring our apartment a few times a day and continuously doing so for a few days. I reported this to a lady, not Faith, and she was like, "that's quite unfortunate and they would keep monitoring it." Wow, that could be a safety concern, and you just said it like this? Statistically, Eugene has the highest homeless rate per capita. What if one of these guys break into one of the resident's apartments?
