Milo participated in his first annual physical at the Heritage Animal Hospital on 01/23/2026. Prior to his visit, I completed a questionnaire provided by the Heritage Animal Hospital. In my answers, I shared that as a puppy Milo experienced a very bad and scary vet appointment, and because of this occurrence, that he was normally nervous and apprehensive at vet appointments. In the questionnaire, I also requested that Milo be seen by a female veterinarian. Dr. Elise Wunderlich was the veterinarian assigned to Milo. She was very patient and kind with Milo, and we enjoyed a productive visit. I look forward to many more appointments with Dr. Elise Wunderlich!

Frequently Asked Questions About Heritage Animal Hospital of Plymouth & Maple Grove

Why Is Pet Dental Care So Important?

Dental disease affects nearly 85% of pets over the age of two. As mentioned, oral infections can easily spread to and affect major organs. Additionally, the pain can cause your pet the stop eating, which can lead to new health issues and/or worsen existing ones. Plaque naturally forms on our pets’ teeth every time they eat. While plaque can be removed with brushing, it will harden and develop into tartar in 2-3 days if unaddressed. Tartar requires more than brushing alone for removal and will irritate and inflame the gum tissue as it builds up. This causes gum recession, which then leads to bone loss and the potential for tooth loss or abscesses (infection). Gum recession and bone loss are irreversible once they occur.

How Microchipping Works

A permanent form of pet identification, microchipping is inexpensive, painless and requires no upkeep or maintenance. The chip itself is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected under the skin using a syringe, much like a vaccine. Each microchip contains a unique set of numbers and/or letters specific to your pet. You then register your contact information with the microchip’s manufacturer. Should your pet ever go missing, most shelters, rescues and veterinary hospitals have a scanner that can read the set of numbers and letters. They can then contact the manufacturer, obtain your registered information and then contact you.
