My experience with VCA Animal Hospitals has been a mix of positive and negative experiences. I speak highly of their puppy plans and early-stage care. That said, many of the issues I experienced more recently felt tied to rigid policies and pricing that no longer made sense to me. I brought two dogs in for routine maintenance care, thinking we were early, but we were actually 9 minutes late for the first dog’s appointment. That was on me. I was told their grace period is 5 minutes, so they refused to see the first dog at all. They did still see the second dog, but the exam took under 4 minutes, which has often been my experience there, and that exam alone was over $130. During that visit, they also insisted that one of my mild-mannered dogs, under 20 pounds, be sedated before receiving vaccines and said he would need to be muzzled when taken to the back, despite never having shown aggression. I understand clinics have procedures, but for simple vaccinations this felt unnecessary and stressful. They also said they only had time to give 2 vaccinations, which was difficult to understand given how brief the visit was, especially since the appointment finished 10 minutes early. In hindsight I should thank them for that, because taking both dogs to a different vet afterward required no sedation, no muzzling, and I was able to stay present the entire time. Both dogs received full vaccination panels there, and the total cost for both was not much more than what I had paid here for two vaccines for one dog. Additionally, during this short initial visit, the doctor that examined my dog had missed that he had an eye infection, although mild and not something I had specifically brought up at the time. Symptoms had already been present for about a month without us realizing it was an infection. Within a week and a half his eye worsened enough that he needed another visit, which meant paying for another exam. I will say that the doctor who saw him on the follow-up visit was very good, and I appreciated that they called twice afterward to make sure his symptoms had resolved. Overall, I had some genuinely positive experiences early on, but over time the pricing, appointment rigidity, and inconsistency between visits made me explore other options as well. I still hope this would not be my last experience with them and can change this later with further good experiences. I recommend them for early care and as needed care, but not for maintenance care.

Never had a worse experience with a vet. I’m reminded this is why you don’t go to corporate vets that buy up the good ones and turn them into uncaring machines. Staff was rude. Vet was ok but they try to push unnecessary lab work to up price. They were great for puppy care, but every visit after that was just a worse and worse experience.

We took our newly adopted dog Otis here and he did great! They were incredibly nice and warm. I’m excited to a part of their vet care and know he’s in good hands. Thank you! 🙏🏼🫶

I rushed my cat Charlie in because he was very ill and dying. They immediately got me in a room and the doctor was absolutely amazing. Despite my emotional breakdown during the process, she was very kind and compassionate to me and my Charlie. The nurse and staff was exceptionally kind and treated me like family. They sent me a very sweet and heartfelt hand written card the following day and provided me with a precious paw print memory of my Charlie. I can't thank them enough for all they did.
