I hate writing bad reviews but it’s so important to share this with other parents.
We moved to DFW from Houston and picked this school based on Google reviews. The first week was fine and admin team was nice enough. Second week, my daughter came home and showed me the middle finger giggling and said it’s a “secret” with my new friend at school. I went in very upset and spoke to the director. She assured it won’t happen again. The teacher tried to ask her who taught her this and that is the extent of action they took. They continued to emphasize they haven’t noticed this behavior in class. I ended this discussion with director & teacher by letting them know that if this continues, I will have to take her out of this school, they both agreed to my decision.
Her fourth week in this school, she came home and refused to eat saying “I don’t want to eat, I’m fat”. Continuing to giggle and play around with her I asked where she learnt this. She said “my friend at school said she’s fat”. This was the last straw for me. My daughter is 3 and her saying that broken my heart. When I escalated this to the director, it was clear this school is not right for our family. The complete refusal to take any ownership or action was appalling.
Keep in mind, we don’t have any big kids or cousins around nor do we let her watch anything other than bluey. We also don’t live with any family. So her saying all of this really threw us off.
We pulled our daughter from this school and called the director to inform. She became very hostile and said I don’t like you implying this behavior is coming from our school. To be clear, I never implied, the behavior 100% came from the school. That was the only variable. We also noticed some major changes in her behavior aside from big situations above:
- It was a struggle to get her to school every single day because she absolutely hated being there. She’s been at other schools before and we never had this issue. Every time I visited middle of the day or odd hours, my daughter would be playing in isolation alone, looking very sad. No wonder she hated going in.
- She started hitting at home, shouting and throwing major tantrums. The director chalked it up to “the big move”. Funny how “the big move” only impacted her when she was at Applebee and she’s totally fine at her new school and at all previous schools
A couple of other odd things I picked up on:
- Teachers who monitored children after 4:30pm had no clue what my daughter’s name was. I would go in looking for her and they’d respond with “who is *daughters name*” my heart sank a couple of times thinking they lost her.
- children are WILD in classrooms. I understand Montessori has less structure but come on!
- my second day dropping daughter to class, a girl came to the classroom door, tried to shut it in my face and then said “hands up” while pointing a makeshift gun with legos. The teacher just stood there and did absolutely nothing to discipline the child.
- I found a bleach bottle just sitting out in front of the school. I complained to the admin team and turns out cleaner were scheduled to clean after school and they left it.. WHAT? Why? Why only one bottle of bleach?? The cleaning hasn’t begun, so why only one bottle sitting out under hot Texan sun in the parking lot at a daycare. ODD!
Anyhow, Happy to report my daughter is in a new school and much happier. She has made friends in the past month, she is a lot calmer, she’s not hitting anymore, and getting her to school in the morning is a breeze. Everyone at school knows our names (both parents and daughters’), children are organized and focused on their individual “work” for the day.
Finally to top everything off, we asked the director to return our deposit given our poor experience and she said no as we didn’t give them fair notice before pulling our daughter from the school. With everything I mentioned above, would you give 30 day notice before pulling your kid? Absolutely ridiculous. This place was literally dangerous, we should be reporting this school to BBB.

We are absolutely thrilled with Applebee Montessori Academy! We have two children there, and they both love going to school. Our older son even asks to go to school on the weekends! We have been amazed at the leaps and bounds we have seen in their learning. The teachers are loving, nurturing, and communicate frequently about our children's learning. The director and leadership staff are top notch. I trust them 100 percent.
As far as how they are handling Covid-19, I feel safe sending my children to school. They have taken every precaution. The place was immaculate beforehand, so I have no worries about our kids going there. In fact, our kids have rarely been ill since starting there, practically unheard of in most daycare situations!
I sing their praises all the time. I cannot say it enough--we LOVE Applebee Montessori!

I absolutely love Applebee Montessori Academy. I have a child enrolled in the infant room with Mrs. Jenny. She is so loving, attentive and responsive to the infants. Her sweet, kind and caring personality makes dropping off your pride and joy an easy process. She is extremely experienced and provides an exploratory environment for which the infants are enriched by allowing them to feel, see and touch varying textures. I love that I am updated throughout the day with activities and pictures of my little one. Mrs. Jennifer, the director, is amazing as well. She has a professional demeanor and runs a tight ship. The communication between the Academy and parents is stellar. I look forward to watching my little one flourish in this outstanding environment.
