Five stars. Would be more if given the option. Why? Short answer: 1. Sean Phillips, General Contractor. Professional. Clear, quick, and consistent communicator. Knowledgeable in roofing structures, materials and costs, insurance companies’ requirements and paperwork, expectations of adjusters, city codes and guidelines. 2. Excellent subcontractors without exception. 3. Professional, pleasant, and responsive office staff.
Long answer: I have worked with building contractors in the past, including having my roof replaced, so my expectations were rather tempered when I began this process, especially after interviewing multiple companies for this particular job. But Town & Country set themselves apart from the very first phone call of inquiry. Sean showed up on time, did a thorough walk-through, and we had the estimate in our inbox before several companies could even arrange to show for an estimate. During the initial estimate, Sean was able to answer all questions we had, gave us heads up for what to expect from the insurance company, even our own specific insurance company as, apparently, they all differ in various ways we would not have expected. Once the company was hired, they were immediately efficient and timely and worked with our schedule which wasn’t always easy. Though I know Sean had other projects going, never once did I get the impression that we were being sidelined in any way, and he even offered to be there when the adjuster showed up in case he or we had any questions. As far as working with the insurance company, the paperwork went off without a hitch between Town & Country and our insurance company, including when we had to add on for necessary redecking. Sean explained everything, and let us know ahead of time when the insurance company might request supplemental paperwork and proof for additional repairs needed as the process unfolded. He checked in on his teams every day and kept us consistently in the loop. He double checked all paperwork and made sure we understood each step of the process.
As impressed as I was by Sean as a general contractor, I was shocked by the subcontractors employed by Town & Country. Through the various times I’ve worked with construction, I’ve never seen 100% excellence in multiple subcontracting teams doing a variety of work. Besides the roofing team, we had a team that came in to replace our gutters, a team that repaired our interior garage ceiling, and a subcontractor who fixed our interior living room ceiling when we had a skylight removed as part of the process. Every subcontractor showed up on time, worked efficiently, was professional and polite, and left zero mess - including no nails from the roofing process left in our yard. And their work was outstanding.
Of course, if you don’t have a head office that keeps things organized, gets paperwork submitted, and is available to answer phone calls and connect you to the right person in the first place, it all falls apart. Everyone I spoke with at the office was, again, pleasant, professional, and helpful.
I certainly would recommend Sean Phillips and Town & Country to anyone without reservation.
