I came to VCA bedford after discovering my 13 year old cat's previous vet had her on a canine diabetic treatment plan, which is wildly different from a feline plan, and was likely not assisting with her recovery. I came in for my first visit with Dr Risley ready to argue and defend a new diet and insulin plan for my cat that I had workshopped with the help of a knowledgeable feline diabetic support group on facebook (shoutout!), but he said everything I wanted to do was reasonable and signed off on it without lifting a finger. I appreciate a vet who listens and doesn't think it's their way or the highway. Under my new plan, where I tested her blood sugar at home daily, my cat was fully regulated with her diet, which wasn't possible with her previous vet's treatment plan. My cat also had chronic UTIs, which Dr Risley was always quick and helpful with administering antibiotics. The staff was kind and accommodating to my schedule as a single cat-parent with a full time job. Sadly, my cat passed in early october and I feel like the catalyst for it was the front desk staff recommending a too-high gabapentin dosage after I inquired. My cat was just about catatonic for the last week of her life after taking it for a shaving appointment. I made several visits to Dr Risley during her last week for advice, appetite stimulants, and later feeding syringes, but her last night I had to rush her to the ER because she was hardly breathing and cold. The ER vet recommended I put her down as her kidneys and liver failed based on a blood panel, and she'd need feeding tube support the rest of her life, which was no quality of life. Looking back, I wish I had confirmed this dosage with Dr Risley, and that he had treated her symptoms with more urgency, but I also understand there's just no way to know. After she passed, I requested assistance with my bills as I was now saddled with several between VCA and the ER vet costing around $2,000 total. At times I was told they would get back to me with options and other times I was completely ignored, so I think it's safe to assume nothing was actually done about this. Their payment collectors called and texted multiple times as well, having no idea I'd requested assistance. This was extremely painful as I went through the grieving process for my cat. Overall, I think we had a decent experience there but I would recommend speaking directly to the vet over the staff for advice. It is a little on the expensive side as well.

Loved it here when we first brought our new puppy in last May. Never charged for a quick nail trim until today. Charged $44 for an assistant to trim in less than 3 minutes. Not impressed and won’t be going back.

Took advantage of their first free appointment for my cat petrie since he was having some urinary issues. Brought him and was seen super fast, too fast. They did no tests or anything dismissed it as anxiety and gave me some anxiety medication for him. Hes slowly declined and gotten worse over the next few days. Glad I wasted my time and money here since I now have to spend even more to get him seen by someone who cares enough to help him
