The device was never set up, it was a Christmas gift. How could there be a “setup fee” without setup. Would not recommend this place, deceptive sales practice and I’ll be filing BBB complaint. Confirmed with Verizon corporate that setup fees are to transfer information from one device to another. This is sales mis practice.

You will pay a $45 "device setup fee" per phone at Cellular Sales of Middletown in addition to the $40.00 upgrade fee per line with Verizon (which will be billed on your bill). Verizon will not credit you the $40.00 back, so for two phones you will pay $170.00 in upgrade fees. As a reward for your $170.00, you will leave with two iPhones that were never unwrapped but somehow required a "device setup fee" which the sales person "David D." failed to tell us about. The fee's are buried in miles of on-screen text and then the receipt is folded quickly and put in your bag, so you don't see it. Don't take your business to people who are willing to scam you like this, do better than I did.
- JMJoseph M.Dec 26, 20251.0**Avoid this verizon location** The rep tried to tell me that I wasn't eligible for a free phone via my upgrade / promo with my Samsung phone which didn't feel right so I got a second opinion at another store and I am glad that I did that. I went to the Newport store by Walmart and they took care of me where I go a free phone, as a part of my family plan, with no need to sign up for unnecessary promos or on-going subscription. If you talk to the team in Middletown, they try to upsell you or get you to subscribe unnecessarily. The weirdest part was that I was dealing with a representative directly and even members of their team who were sitting around started chiming in and backing their colleague that there was no way I could get a free phone as part of my family plan. Bottom line, if you do go here and it feels weird, just walk away from it. I would strongly recommend going to newport and get a second opinion - you'll thank me later. Edit (written on Jan 10, 2026): Added a few more details for clarity sake. Also, I was told to send an email in this review thread and I sent an email on December 28 to the email address as shown by Verizon. There has been no response to the email from Verizon regarding this situation.
