September 2025 I’ve needed these past few months to process the loss before I could write this, but I wanted to share my unhappy experience... I brought my 16-year-old Chihuahua here for urgent care due to his declining health, complicated by long-standing heart failure. My experience was highly unsatisfactory, marked by a severe lack of communication, poor follow-up, and an alarming absence of compassion. Initially, my dog was diagnosed with a kidney infection and started on medication. I followed up with my regular veterinarian days later, who performed a urine test that suggested the infection had cleared. When I returned to VCA Bloomington due to his worsening condition, the experience was distressing: Rude Intake Process: The veterinary nurse handling the intake abruptly left the consultation room mid-question to attend to another matter in the lobby, which was rude and unacceptable, especially given the emergency nature and severity of my pet's illness. Lack of Professionalism and Empathy: The attending veterinarian was extremely dismissive and rushed. I explained my regular vet's finding (that the infection was clear per urine test), and the doctor immediately became defensive. She asserted that a urine test could not definitively determine if the infection was clear and immediately pushed for euthanasia without any attempt at sensitive discussion or compassionate communication. Insensitivity to Crisis: Her demeanor felt cold and unprofessional, focused more on defending a diagnostic method than on caring for a critically ill, elderly pet. The lack of compassion and professionalism displayed by both the doctor and the nurse during a severe medical crisis was deeply disheartening and unacceptable. I had to seek a second opinion elsewhere immediately after leaving their clinic because I search online and it says different. I wanted to make sure that I did everything in my power to help my dog, my son who shared 16 years with me. I strongly urge VCA Bloomington to address its staff's bedside manner and communication training, especially when handling elderly pets facing end-of-life decisions. The pet may mean nothing to you but it means the world to the pet owner. I don't need to feel rush, PERIOD, that my son's life is insignificant, that I failed him because of how you handle the situation.

My fur baby had a horrible ear infection in both of her little ears. They took her examined her, diagnosed what type of ear infection it was. Then provided me with medications to treat her with and very clear understandable Aftercare directions. also their follow-up is amazing. The vet there was a absolutely phenomenal. she really really loves animals, and made sure that even though I am a student and don't get paid very well. I was able to get what I needed for my dog, to treat her properly, at a price I could actually pay. Which they did not have to do. Would like to thank all of the ladies that day that I seen that helped me and my fur baby👑

Our visit today was incredible! They were able to understand and treat my dog’s condition quickly and Dr. Marres took the time to not only explain why the issue was occurring but how to avoid it in the future. She seemed to be mindful of the cost and I found it fairly priced. We’ve been going here for 10+ years but really wanted to say thank you for the visit today!

They are awesome paw-some. Dr. G has a sPETacular sense of humor and explains things well in a way that's easy to understand yet also informative those who understand science/stats/etc. The front desk people are very sweet too, and litter-ally were quite understanding when we had a few puppy accidents in the lounge area... calls of nature. : ) What can I say? Well, besides the fact that they are reBARKable (reMARKable).
