Massage SchoolsCommunity CollegesMassage Therapy
We Are Moving! Come see our new location on Old Alabama Road in Roswell on November 18th. Rising Spirit was founded in 1994 by Drs. Bruce and Martha Costello, and was originally known as the New Life Institute School of Massage Excellence. Drs. Costello felt that there was a growing demand for a quality Massage Therapy school in Atlanta that offered more than the traditional massage program. In January 2001, the name was changed to reflect the expanding vision the founders had for the school. In June 2006, Rising Spirit went through another transformation with the acquisition of Rising Spirit by Gwinnett College, and Michael Davis was named President. We are excited by the expansion of our student body as well as the different options available to our students as well as those of Gwinnett College. We see this as a giant leap forward for Metro-Atlantans, as it creates many new educational and career opportunities.

I had two specific teachers that made a very great impact on my experience in the massage program. Lauren Buruga and Ms. Deborah were both very amazing teachers. I love Lauren’s passion and excitement when it comes to anatomy and Swedish techniques. She even gave us extra handouts that she thought would be helpful outside of the standard textbooks. Both of them continuously encouraged me and helped me perfect my techniques!

Attending Gwinnett College has been a great experience. As an adult learner, I truly appreciate how supportive and attentive the staff is. The teachers are knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to help. What stands out most is how the college goes out of its way to accommodate adult learners like myself, creating a schedule and support system that works with real life. The school creates a welcoming environment that makes it easier to succeed. The director is truly a gem—she constantly goes above and beyond to create a sense of community through fun and engaging events like Spirit Week. I feel valued here and would definitely recommend Gwinnett College to anyone considering going back to school.

It's been exciting learning all of the amazing things about the body. I'm an entrepreneur with multiple businesses and I am pursuing my massage therapy license as a "passion" stream of income. I am not afraid to admit that all of the information in the beginning was very intimidating. The instructors are very personable and knowledgable, but one instructor in particular I absolutely must acknowledge, and that is Mrs. Lauren Buruga. Whereas all of the instructors are dedicated to their duties, Lauren is one of those "above and beyond" instructors. Her passion for what she does completely evident in every lesson, every homework assignment and every project. Again, the other teachers are great, but Lauren is absolutely the bar of standard at Gwinnett College.
