My dog has had anal gland infections two years in a row. This year, the doctor pushed for additional treatments that were not done the first time, presenting them as preventative, but I declined and requested the same treatment as last year. The bill ended up being lower than the previous year for the same service, which raises serious concerns about inconsistent and potentially inflated pricing. On top of that, my dog was discharged without being cleaned up, and when I called later to ask about pain medication, I was told all staff had already left for the day. These practices make the care club membership feel pointless, and I do not trust the clinic’s approach to pricing or follow-up care.

I have never written an online review before, but I feel obligated to do so after the very negative experience I had with VCA Palo Alto's dental care for my dogs.
I brought my two 7-year old dogs to VCA Palo Alto for their annual check-up and was advised to return for dental cleanings. The process started with a pre-appointment and bloodwork, which cost around $1,000. We then scheduled the dental cleaning, which cost $6,000 for both dogs.
During the procedure, we received a call informing us that VCA was unable to complete all the necessary extractions for one of the dogs. They recommended I see a veterinary dentist for a second opinion and further care.
I find this approach highly unprofessional and misleading. VCA recommended we pursue dental treatment with them, but they did not inform us beforehand that their team might not be able to complete complex extractions. They should have assessed our dogs’ age, breed, and medical history and advised us accordingly before we invested thousands of dollars in incomplete care.
Now, we are left with incomplete treatment, more stress on our dog, and a second round of costly dental work elsewhere. I do not recommend VCA Palo Alto for dental procedures. Instead, go directly to a veterinary dentist who has the full training and capability to complete all necessary care in one visit.

Updated review:
My dog was diagnosed with diabetes only after I asked them to test him for diabetes. I really felt comfortable with Vca Palo Alto because they always wanted to give the most expensive tests. (Which always came back as he was fine). When they finally agreed to test them for diabetes they gave horrible advice for example to keep his same diet. He should’ve been put on a better diet and been told exercise more. He could have lived another year or two, but his appointments kept being canceled and different doctors were giving different advice. Two months after being diagnosed he died today. He didn’t have to suffer. He was going to see another vet this week, they had a whole plan, but he never made it because of the medical advice of VCA Palo Alto.
Old review with our old vet:
Highly recommend.
