Five stars for the vet and the vet techs. Unfortunately I am not very happy with the encounter I had with the front desk lady. I had called about dropping off a sample to get tested and was told it was okay and they would expect to see me later in the day. When I got there I was meet with a different lady then who I spoke with earlier in the day. When I got there she stopped me in the middle of what I was saying to her to answer the phone and have a separate conversation. When she was done on the phone she proceeded to give me attitude and argue with me with about taking the sample. After explaining my situation and what I needed done she proceeded to go to the “back” (the door propped open behind me) and loudly complain about me to others in the back. When she came back up to the front to talk to me again I was give more attitude. She ended up taking my sample to get tested and told me exactly what I had already told her previously. I do not appreciate being treated like this and Unfortunately I don’t think I will be returning for anymore treatment at this time.

The reviews don’t do this veterinary hospital justice. I had a sick dog and was able to make an appointment online immediately. Someone text me to gather further information and they welcomed me when I arrived. The staff were awesome, friendly and even took me in early. They also provided a goody bag when I checked out, welcoming my fur family. I’ve never had this much kind service with my pets. The vet was the best and very knowledgeable. I wish you could bottle up all of your professionalism and send it to some of the lower 48 vets. Thank you for taking care of my dog and making our stay here more comfortable.

My dog, Nanook, and I have seen just about every Doctor and Technician here. Each and every one has been so kind, compassionate, patient, and thoughtful. Not just with my dog, but with me, too.
Nanook was diagnosed with Hypothyroid Disease, Skin and Ear Infections, and just recently had a flare-up of Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis that left her in their care from open til close. We have been frequent flyers of this place for about 5 months from all of it. They've been able to squeeze us in on short notice, even seeing us same day for emergencies.
I have always been well informed of my dogs illnesses, treatment plans, and care instructions. Prices have always been transparent and reasonable. I always have all my questions answered. I've felt in charge of the procedures and tests done, usually with a few options given to choose from.
The crew there has always been very understanding when I had to say no to parts of her treatment plans. The advice I was given was always in Nanooks' best interest, never just what paid the clinic the most.
Thank you to everybody who helped us. Your experience and expertise gave Nanook her best chance at recovery. You saved her life. The walls there aren't always so soundproof, and I was able to hear some of the sweet things said to my pup, even behind closed doors. It was clear she was given so much love and affection every time she was taken for some tests.
I can not express my gratitude and appreciation enough. Thank You.

My cat, Mr. Ernie, who had been with me for over 18 years, had to be put asleep. It was very tough losing my friend, but all the crew showed us both, the best care and compassion. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. If your animal needs help, this is the place to go. Thank you for being so caring, God Bless!

I've been going to Big Lake-Susitna Veterinary Hospital for 14 years with my dogs and cats. It has always been easy to schedule an appointment for a new pet or an animal that is having problems. This past March my old dog collapsed on his way to breakfast. I called BLSVH at around 8 AM and Dr. Hambach was checking him out by 9 AM. (I live a half an hour away from the hospital) The diagnosis was such that having him put to sleep was the best option for him. The staff and doctors were all very compassionate and understanding and allowed us plenty of time to say good bye. The next month my wife adopted a kitten from an adoption clinic in Eagle River. She call BLSVH on her way home to set up an appointment and was told she could stop by for a wellness exam without an appointment. This was on a Saturday when they generally don't do walk-ins. Just this past week I adopted a new puppy from animal control to replace the dog that died in March. I was able to get an appointment the next day to make sure it was safe to allow the puppy with the rest of our animals. I love the way Dr. Lehman gets down to the animals level and does the exam so the dog hardly knows it's being examinded. This hospital is staffed with professionals that not only care about their animal patients but the people that own the animals. When one of my dogs was diagnosed with diabetes Dr. Lehman called all around to find a place for me to get the insulin my dog would need at a price that I could afford. I just can't speak highly enough of this organization.
