These guys were excellent. Stephanie was honest and and professional on the phone when I contacted her. I had contacted 14 other moving companies from local to Van Lines and Stephanie was the only one who didn’t push or try to sell me something - she was just honest and down to earth, and answered all my questions. I will say their pricing was the most expensive out of all the quotes but I was able to negotiate a discount due to my shopping around. I think the pricing was worth it due to the quality of service we had gotten. We did a long distance move from VA to NC and Potomac Moving Company was stellar. They showed up on time and the crew we had of 3 introduced themselves to us and shook our hands. They had come in the first snow of the year as well and were in high spirits. They moved us out quickly and carefully (around 4 hours with disassemble) and then drove with our stuff overnight and reassembled and moved the furniture in to our new place at lightning speed, whilst still being careful of the furniture. They used proper protocol of wrapping furniture and laying out a carpet in the entry way. They were punctual and professional. The best movers I’ve had. I’m going to recommend these guys to anyone in the area. Thank you Potomac Moving Company!!!!!

Why do you base compensation on the weight of the item?
Federal law mandates this practice. The department of transportation requires all moving companies to compensate losses based on item weight. All moving companies under the federal motor carrier safety administration's jurisdiction offer the federally required free coverage of $0.60 per pound, with options for increased coverage at additional cost.
Does Potomac Moving Company charge a booking fee?
Yes, we require a $100 deposit for local moves, which is deducted from your total upon job completion. Rescheduling is penalty-free if done 7 or more days before the scheduled move. Cancellations or rescheduling with less than 7 days' notice result in a 50% refundable deposit. We recommend early booking during busy periods, as our schedule can fill up weeks in advance.
What is a truck fee or travel time?
The truck fee covers the cost of one truck for a day's use, including furniture dollies, tools, and protective blankets. It also serves as transportation for the moving crew. While it might seem less expensive to rent a truck yourself, once all associated costs are factored in, using our trucks often proves more cost-effective and time-efficient.
How long will my move take?
Move duration varies significantly due to factors such as apartment floor, packing thoroughness, elevator size and availability, and distance to the truck. We provide an estimate based on averages of similar moves, but charge only for time worked. Our crews always work efficiently with a mission-oriented approach, ensuring fairness for both clients and our company.
What if traffic delays my move?
Traffic delays are beyond our control. We will complete your move regardless, charging the same hourly rate until the job is finished.
What size truck do you use on a move?
Our fleet consists of 26' straight moving trucks. For unusually high volume moves, please inform us to allow for adjustments. If a second trip is necessary, we charge for the additional time. We prefer making multiple trips with our 26' trucks over using larger vehicles, as 18-wheelers significantly increase move costs due to higher truck expenses and driver training requirements.
Why don't you cover items that are moved from or into a storage unit?
Once items are placed in or removed from a storage unit, we no longer have control or access to them. Therefore, we cannot provide coverage for these items after they leave our care and possession.
Why don't you cover press-board furniture?
Press-board furniture is not designed for longevity. Composed of sawdust and glue, it's intended for short-term use and can weaken over multiple relocations. While we handle these items with care and wrap them, we do not cover any resulting damages due to their inherent fragility.
Will Potomac Moving Company protect my floors & walls?
We take extensive precautions to protect your property. This includes carefully padding and wrapping all items, removing and wrapping glass shelves and table tops, padding door jambs, hard surface floors, and railings, and installing protective floor runners throughout the home. We also cover or shrink wrap upholstered furniture and bag all mattresses before moving.
Does Potomac Moving Company disassemble and reassemble furniture?
Yes, we disassemble furniture as needed for the move and reassemble all items that we took apart upon placement in your new home. We follow your directions for item placement in the new location.
