RUN! DO NOT USE THIS “LAWYER”. Please! TRUST ME ON THIS!
“Attorney” Bruce Sandmeyer is the absolute WORST "lawyer" in Erie. Using him was an unmitigated disaster from beginning to end! PLEASE! GO ELSEWHERE!
We met with him on Nov. 13, 2020, about a time sensitive case. He assured us we had a case and a good one. He said, “I’ll get this rolling on Monday.” and said that the opposing party would be served within 2 weeks. The opposing party was not served until December 28th. 6 WEEKS LATER! 6 WEEKS TO GET THIS PERSON SERVED!!
Over these 6 weeks, we got A SINGLE phone call from him. We had called him no less than 8 times, to get an update on our case. This lack of communication continued throughout our fight (lasting 6 months). We would call 5, 6, 7, sometimes 8 times before he would FINALLY call us back. We would go WEEKS at a time without hearing from him. In addition to phone calls, we sent multiple texts and emails, and even resorted to sending him a letter in the mail asking him to PLEASE GIVE US AN UPDATE!!!!!!! All went without acknowledgment.
We asked Bruce to get records from the police station from when the opposing party had broken into our home. We asked him to do research on certain aspects of our case that we were unable to access the information on for ourselves. Every single time, he would give lip service, saying he would do, BUT IT NEVER HAPPENED.
We consistently asked Bruce what date we were going to court. First, we were told we would receive 6 weeks’ notice. Then we were told 2-3 weeks’ notice. My husband called Bruce on a Saturday afternoon about some paperwork we received in the mail about another part of our case. He actually picked up the phone and proceeded to tell my husband we were going to court THAT MONDAY! If we had not have called, we would not have known about our date!
My husband and I spent no less than 40 hours putting together all of our evidence, including communication with the opposing party from the past 3 years and had turned it in weeks before the court date. The day of our hearing comes, Bruce is NOT THERE! I call his office, his secretary has no idea where she is. She says she will call him and get back to me. 20 minutes later she calls me back, apologizing profusely “He thought your case was later in the afternoon”. We get in with the judge, Bruce NEVER TURNED IN ANY OF OUR EVIDENCE. He DOESN’T fight. He IMMEDIATELY rolls over and tells the judge “You’re right your honor. We have no case”. I AM NOT KIDDING! It was all over in 5 minutes!!
We leave the courtroom, Bruce says he wants to meet with us in the next week. 3 WEEKS (and you guessed it), 6 phone calls later, we FINALLY meet with him. He has no real explanation for anything and says he was late for court because he was “Stuck behind a beer truck” and that it is “normal” for an attorney to be late for court. We ask him why we were not given notice about our court date and he shrugs his shoulders and says “I mean, it just got missed that’s all”.
He then proceeds to tell us “Look we just didn’t have enough evidence and the judge wasn’t going to go with it. I won the case after yours”. NO EVIDENCE WAS PRESENTED! He didn’t use a single scrap of what we gave him. Additionally, he agreed to things we did not want and hushed my husband when he tried to say he didn’t agree.
In this final meeting, Bruce says he will contact the opposing party’s lawyer about a communication issue and get it sorted out. This was a week ago. WE HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM BRUCE. However, we did hear from the opposing party on the matter and are now being mercilessly harassed. We have engaged a new lawyer. Bruce will probably find out when/if he ever reads this review, as he won’t call us back and thus we feel no obligation to try to reach out to him and let him know “YOU’RE FIRED”. Something we should have done in the first 6 weeks.
P.S. While we were waiting for our meeting with Bruce last week (which he was LATE for), another man came in demanding to see Bruce because he was not calling him back. PLEASE! Find a REAL LAWYER for your case.

Bruce has been repersenting me and my family for better of 5+ years in matters of divorce, child custody, and child support. I have recommended Bruce to both friends and family members with all having very good outcomes to their cases as well.
Bruce not only is a lawyer, a decorated US Veteran, but a man with compassion and takes each case with as much importance to him as it is to me. He never made me feel alone.
Walking through the halls of the courthouse with Bruce, its obvious the respect his peers and courthouse staff have for him. EVERYONE says hi to Bruce with enthusiasm.
I couldnt imagine not having Bruce as my lawyer.
