I cannot speak highly enough about this law firm. They are so detailed oriented. I have such confidence in them and find them watching out for me in ways I would not even have thought of. They give advice that is in your best interest and not in their bottom lines best interest. I have been dealing with them for years and will never go anywhere else. On my last visit I told them what I wanted to do, and they advised me on a better way to do it which would make them less money. So even though I was asking them to do something for me that they would have made more money on, he showed having my best interest as his primary concern and offered a less expensive way to achieve what I wanted that I didn’t even know was possible. This Law Firm gets that taking care of customers with honesty, care, and integrity assures their continued success. Again, Thank you so much!

Frequently Asked Questions About Gardner & Stevens, PC
What should I do after a personal injury accident?
After an injury, seek medical attention immediately, document the scene (photos, witness contact information), report the incident (to the police or property owner), and avoid discussing fault. Contact a personal injury lawyer to protect your rights and explore your legal options.
How do I know if I have a personal injury case?
If your injury was caused by someone else's negligence—such as a car accident, slip and fall, or medical malpractice—you may have a case. A lawyer can assess liability, damages, and potential compensation through a free consultation.
What types of compensation can I receive for my injury?
You may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, property damage, and future medical expenses. In limited cases, punitive damages may be awarded if the defendant’s actions were reckless or intentional.
How long do I have to file a personal injury claim?
The time limit (statute of limitations) varies by state, but generally, in Pennsylvania you have two years from the date of injury to either resolve your claim or file suit. Some claims may have shorter limitations. Missing this deadline can prevent you from recovering compensation. A lawyer can help ensure your claim is filed on time.
How much does a personal injury lawyer cost?
Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning you pay nothing upfront. They only get paid if you win your case, taking a percentage of the settlement or verdict. This ensures access to legal help without financial risk.
What issues does family law cover?
Family law covers legal matters related to family relationships, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, alimony, adoption, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements and domestic violence protection orders (PFAs). A family law attorney can help navigate these issues and protect your rights.
How is child custody determined?
Child custody decisions are based on the best interests of the child. Courts consider factors such as each parent’s relationship with the child, the child's needs, the parents' ability to provide a stable environment, and any history of abuse or neglect. Custody arrangements typically determine legal custody (who can make major decisions, typically pertaining to education, religion and healthcare) and physical custody (who has the child and how often).
How is child support calculated?
Child support is typically determined based on Pennsylvania state guidelines, which consider factors like each parent's income, the number of children, healthcare and education costs, and the custody arrangement. A lawyer can help ensure that child support calculations are fair and accurately reflect the financial needs of the child.
How are assets divided in a divorce?
The division of assets can be done amicably through a postnuptial agreement or through a court order if no agreement can be reached. Factors include, but are not limited to, the length of marriage, age of the parties, income of the parties, health of the parties and unique needs of the parties. An experienced family law lawyer will make sure you are treated fairly and get what you are entitled to receive under the law.
Do I need a prenuptial agreement?
A prenuptial agreement (prenup) is not just for wealthy individuals—it can protect both spouses by clarifying asset division, debt responsibility, and financial expectations in case of divorce. If you own a business, have significant assets, or children from a previous relationship, a prenup can help prevent future legal disputes.
What is an estate plan, and why do I need one?
An estate plan is a set of legal documents that outline how your assets will be distributed after your passing and who will make decisions on your behalf if you become incapacitated. Having an estate plan ensures that your wishes are honored and protects your family from legal complications. Typical estate planning documents consist of a will and power of attorney. Some clients may benefit from a trust.
What happens if I die without a will?
If you pass away without a will, your estate will be distributed according to Pennsylvania intestacy laws. This means that the court will decide who inherits your assets, which may not align with your wishes. Having a will allows you to specify beneficiaries and appoint an executor to manage your estate the way you want
What is the difference between a will and a trust?
A will is a legal document that outlines your wishes regarding asset distribution, who you want to be in charge of your estate (executor) and guardianship of minor children after your death. A trust, on the other hand, allows you to transfer assets to a trustee who manages them for your beneficiaries over a period of time. There are many misconceptions about trusts and therefore a consultation with a lawyer can determine the pros and cons with a trust.
When should I update my estate plan?
You should review and update your estate plan whenever you experience a major life change, such as marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, a significant change in assets, or the passing of a beneficiary. It’s also recommended to revisit your estate plan every few years to ensure it still aligns with your wishes and current laws.
