I am an experienced NC Board Certified Family Law Specialist offering Collaborative Divorce and Mediation services. Divorce is a transition. It does not have to be war. I compassionately guide clients through a holistic, problem-solving approach to resolving family conflict outside the courtroom. I also prepare Prenuptial, Postnuptial and Cohabitation agreements. As a certified Mediator, I facilitate resolutions to help people stay out of the combative court system.
Irene was recommended to me by a good friend. I was told she would take care of me through the unwanted aspects of a divorce while having my child's best interest at the forefront of her mind. She listened to me through many tears and made an awful situation as smooth as possible. She dealt with every legal aspect so I didn't have to worry about that. She explained things well and would always answer and re-answer any questions I had through the painful process. I will be forever grateful for her knowledge and professionalism.

Divorce is never easy and for most it’s uncharted territory. I expected chaos and court dates, but my experience working with Irene King showed me there was a better way, a less stressful way, and a more fair and amicable way to untangle and dissolve the marriage contract. With Irene’s guidance and expertise, we successfully collaborated with my ex’s attorney and came to a speedy agreement that worked out for everyone. Irene was the voice of reason when emotions would run high, and helped both parties see the pragmatic, fair alternatives that should be considered and pursued. I appreciate Irene King and her caring, compassionate and knowledgeable approach to what can be a complicated process, and her ability to help everyone focus on the dissolution and not the emotion.

Family law is a tricky thing to review, isn't it? It typically means that you need some help with a very challenging situation, and that's not something we usually want to announce publicly to the world.
When I found out I was getting divorced, I didn't even know where to start. I called the only close friend I had at the time who had gone through a divorce and simply asked, "what's the one thing I need to know?" He said, go collaborative and call Irene. He did the alternative first (traditional legal representation) and racked up $100k in fees in a matter of months between him and his ex, and they were even more at odds with each other than when they started. At that point, they knew something had to change for both their mental health and the health of their child. It was then they found collaborative family law, and he was referred to Irene.
If I had to guess, most of Irene's business comes through referral because she is without question an incredible person who is very, very good at what she does. I learned later that her background is in the big traditional law practices. She worked alongside the sharks for years before branching out into her own practice that put her clients first--not the billing. And I can tell you from personal experience, having fully executed my own divorce with Irene's caring support, she puts her clients first. She speaks to you in a language you understand, she listens to what you want, and she advocates for you.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about her. I know it sounds strange to say it, but she made the divorce process as good as it possibly could be. Her pricing was incredibly fair, and she didn't nickel and dime me for anything. I hope I don't ever have to use her again (no offense, Irene!), but I would in a heartbeat, and I would passionately recommend her to anyone. I'm grateful for how easy she made the experience for my family and me.
