I went in to insure an out of province vehicle at Western Financial Group (WFG), an insurance broker for SGI, and when completing the process I was informed about a safe driving discount I could qualify for if I transferred over my driving record from out of province. The process involved emailing a copy of my driving history to the main SGI office (not WFG). Over the next three months I ended up coming back to WFG to insure my vehicle three times, a 50 minute round trip, only to find out that I still didn’t have a safe driving discount applied to my file. After each time I renewed I had to send a new email to the main SGI office to try and find out why the discount hadn’t been applied, and each time I was told by WFG not to worry as I would be reimbursed for every month I had been insured in the province once my safe driving discount had been applied. Finally after four months of back and fourth my safe driving discount was applied, shortly after I received a reimbursement cheque for ONE month of insurance. After calling the SGI main office to inquire as to why I was not reimbursed for all four months I was told that because I insured on a month to month basis I was not eligible for reimbursement for more than one month. When I told them that WFG had told me multiple times that I would be reimbursed for every month I had been insured in the province, and never once mentioned I had to insure for a longer period in order to qualify for full reimbursement, I was told, “Well we can’t verify what they told you and this is our policy”. I am not one to write many negative reviews but this was one of the poorest and most frustrating customer service experiences I have had. It was a long dragged out process with horrendous communication from the main SGI office and incorrect information from the WFG office. I will definitely be using a different broker going forward and if there were any other insurers in the province I would absolutely be using a different insurance company.

I can’t believe that at the moment this wonderful company is only rated a three! I have had such a wonderful experience with this group since March 2024 when I switched from a small town agency. This group is so knowledgable and is accessible all across Canada not just in one small town. The difference from my last agency and this one is, totally amazing. I love this group. They’ve helped me iron out small problems that were left from when I switched over from the small town agency to new broker solutions for a variety of my other interests so thank you western financial you guys deserve 10 out of five.
