- RRRichardOct 28, 20251.0I switched to GEICO 2 years ago because the auto insurance company that I was with dramatically raised my rate all at once at the beginning of a new 6 month period despite my excellent driving record and being a senior driver pretty much over 50. Geico advertises low rates and it was fine at first but then they began to slowly raise the rate. Also they have become unempathetic and pretty brutal with their grace period before cancellation and to be honest not very truthful. I got a cancellation letter immediately after non payment for a cancellation date for just 17 days, North Carolina requires a 15 day cancellation notice by insurance companies for auto coverage, GEICO claims to have a 9 day grace period but what they didn't tell me was that they combined the north Carolina 15 days with their 9 day grace period so in reality it was only 17, which was just 2 days before I was able to make payment to keep my policy active. They will not work with you, guess I'll be going back to my old company where I got a 3 week period before cancellation.
