  There is a TLDR version at the end, otherwise the synopsis: Purchased our house in the summer of 2022 and was recommended Brightway from our realtor. They helped us find a policy with Security First without water coverage with the understanding that we would need to re-pipe the house from polybutylene plumbing to PVC. Post re-piping, we submitted a request to Brightway with proof of the repairs so that they could follow up with Security First on our behalf. In the time between August and November we worked with at least 3-4 different agents who all seemed to not remember what our plan/situation was (implying that notes were never taken between conversations) including Nick Ward himself (the agency owner). We were denied the additional coverage multiple times by Security First, including one of Nick Ward’s agents telling Security First that we had polybutylene piping in the middle of us attempting to get coverage added (which they then promptly denied us additional coverage again). After 4 months (November) of playing phone and email tag with Nick Ward’s Brightway company, we finally reached out to Security First directly. The insurance company immediately processed our claim with proof of re-piping to PVC and we had additional coverage within a week. The only reason we did not remove Brightway from the transaction was due to our policy being locked-in at a lower rate and it would have been raised if we wrote a new policy without them. TLDR: It took Brightway 4 months to attempt to add water coverage to a policy. We then did it ourselves without them at month 4. The staff did not take notes and Nick Ward, the owner, stopped all communications in the middle of the process. If I was stranded on a desert island run by Nick Ward’s company, I would rather take my chances walking into the ocean for rescue.
