We are not from Trenton and don't know the area well. Yesterday, we were on a three hour pilgrimage traveling west on HWY 401 to deliver a new bike to our nine year old granddaughter.
In my rear view mirror, I could see the bike, in the rack, on the back of the car. The plastic fender was bending wildly, to and fro, in the wind turbulence. I was concerned that it might break off. What to do?
I knew there was a building supply store on the north side of the highway. I got off the 401 and headed for the Trenton RONA. Inside, I looked at various ropes, straps, bungees and tape - trying to decide what to buy to secure the fender.
Finally, I asked the opinion of the woman at the main check-out. Catherine listened to me, reached behind on the counter and produced two long plastic zip ties. “Try these,“ she said. I took them out to my car and zip-tied the fender to the bike frame and to the wheel. Tight and secure. Perfect.
I walked back in to pay Catherine. She smiled and said to forget it. The ties were just sitting there left over from some other purpose. Minutes later, I was back on the highway.
My granddaughter’s bike made the three hour trip to her in one piece. She snipped off the zip ties and rode around the block with excitement.
This is not a review about product quality, pricing or advertising. This is about customer service. This is about a resourceful employee who listened to a customer, empathized, thought creatively and practically, and solved a problem – with no thought of profit. The people of Trenton are lucky to have a store like their RONA, a store smart enough to hire a person like Catherine. So often it’s the small things and the people that bring me back to a retailer. Never had a bad experience here. They're always willing to help. Good selection, online purchase able and you get help loading everything. Prices are average but they're end of the season sales are amazing. We got a $500 patio set (assembled) for half price. The cashier is always friendly and she's the nicest lady, always smiling amd laughing. Save the drives all over town and go to rona.
