On a recent chilly and rainy afternoon I visited McLean Nursery in Parkville, Maryland, to get my annual inspiration for decking the halls with boughs of holly. Six cheerful people (and a dog!)stuffed into a cozy shed full of holiday trimmings was a nice respite from the constant deluge of rain.

I got great plants for my garden and lots of help from the owner and his staff about what won't just be dinner for my deer and woodchucks. Very good advice and great plants and ONE QUARTER the cost of a good mail order house like White Flower Farm and no shipping charge either. That is right, I paid only one quarter of what I had been paying for plants by mail order and NO SHIPPING CHARGE also no waiting for your material. Shop local and save our economy and a good business.
