Dear future readers,
Have you heard of a nightmare? If not, you are living under a rock!
Brookdale is one of these nightmare stories you hear around town.
One,
They overcharge and undercare. Two, understaffed so bad it's not funny.
Three, you will go downhill faster, and you will die there.
Let's tell me how this family member had a golden heart, and when they got to a point in life that needed full-time care, they wanted a home. We did that, plus it was taking a toll on the family we didn't know we had. Signing papers, let's say, they were badly neglected.
We had many, many small problems that added up to a big one with frustration. Our family has a lot to do every day before we take care of our golden-hearted dead family member. If you love your mother, father, sons, daughter, aunts, uncles, cousins, great-aunt, great-uncle, great-cousin, or just a dear family friend, you are taking care of them. DON'T GO THERE. DON'T LET THIS be your last choice. This family's heart of gold has passed away. I will say that I am glad Brookdale didn't get our lawyers involved! DON'T CONTACT ME!

My dads need for memory care was rather sudden and we were not prepared. We visited several other sites but they just showed us the facility and left us feeling like they were a poor choice. In our first meeting with the staff at Brookdale Torbett they took the time to evaluate our needs and situation. Nathan from their staff went to the hospital to evaluate dad and see if Torbett was a good fit. It's now been about 6 months and we could not be more sure that we made the right decision. We appreciate the care that they are giving my dad. If you're looking for a memory care facility you really should give them a visit.

The weight of choosing, or helping to choose a living space for parent is/was overwhelming. When your in the middle of your loved ones changes in life to critically evaluate all there needs is daunting.
While writing this review I was taken back to that time where we needed to find a safe, caring, and supportive location...and time was of the essence. The admin staff at Brookdale-Torbett (Farrah, Jez, Ciara, Holly, Nathan) were amazing in helping to walk me through this initial period. Move in was assisted in every aspect. Everyone there is a professional in the care of dementia and aging. The addition of passion and connection by the staff to the residents was one of the most incredible things. Their care was personal, engaging, supportive, patient and kind.
One has to remember that family of the residents are and have to be an advocate in all things, every concern or question that came up during Dad's stay was quickly addressed and corrected if necessary. I appreciated that they would reach out to me concerning Dad or share things to consider as his care needs changed, or to communicate observations which helped me adjust or address further care needs he might need.
Dad was in a safe and caring space, needs were addressed, and the social interaction sustained which is hugely important. It allowed me to shift to a parent-child relationship again to some extent, and be in space that reduced stress, providing more time to just be with him.
Dementia care is multifaceted, difficult for family and caregivers as the needs are high, and the feedback from the patient is difficult sometimes because as they lose those cognitive or mobility abilities to care for them a high constant level of focus is necessary.
I could write pages and pages about our experience and how grateful I was for everyone at Brookdale-Torbett. I know Dad was grateful as well. They were there and focused and caring from the day Dad moved in, until his last breath. Those moments meant more than words can convey. I absolutely recommend Brookdale-Torbett for anyone in need of this level of care.

My mother, now 96, has spent 8 years at Brookdale Richland when she needed assisted living, and now perhaps 10 years at Brookdale Torbett just 1/4 mile away, where they helped to move her when her dementia caused her to need to be in a more controlled memory care environment. I cannot say enough for the management and staff of these facilities. Over this many years there have been plenty of opportunities for me to see any indication of a lack of care or caring, and I've seen none of that. Its unusual in such a small facility, but it isn't often that they don't have 3-4 caregivers on the floor working with the residents just on my mom's side of this relatively small facility. And my mother is in love with everyone who works there: caregivers, administrative staff, nursing & health & wellness staff, and management. Through the coronavirus, lots of other illnesses that routinely attack elder facilities, and normal day-to-day living, these people really care for their residents and are committed to them. I have never had a single issue with a caregiver through any of this, and I really appreciate the tough job they do, which they could never do if they didn't have lots of compassion and caring for the elderly.
