Visit the Planned Parenthood health center in Federal Way, WA for emergency contraception (morning after pill), abortion, pregnancy testing, STD treatment, birth control, and sexual and reproductive health care.
Planned parenthood is an amazing organization doing important work. But over the last year, the new staff at this particular center are callous and show no empathy for patients. After four years, I will have to begin going to a new location.
EDIT: In response to the comment below, I have contacted that email before and no one has bothered to reply. Performative.

The first time I came here last year, I had a great experience. I came back today and was snapped at by the eldest lady behind the billing desk who was saying my total was almost twice what it was the year prior (for the same treatment). When I checked in for the appointment, I was told it would cost x amount. After the appointment, she told me a new number. I was confused and said earlier when I checked in, I was told it would be this amount? And she immediately lashed out at me saying the price of everything went up. I asked for an itemized receipt before I paid almost $600 and she once again said “the price just went up!” I explained if the price increased that is okay. I’m simply asking what each charge was resulting in the total. She then attempted to embarrass me and said “So what can you pay today then?” Speaking loud enough for other patients to hear everything she’s saying while I am speaking discreetly by the way. The price was not the issue. I just wanted to know why my bill changed from before the appointment to after. Eventually, she did the math again and realized she was WRONG. She then began projecting, instead of apologizing, and told someone else to ring me up for HALF the cost she was barking at me to just pay and got mad at me for questioning initially. I wish people could watch the cameras to see exactly how she spoke to me, and how I spoke to her. I can’t imagine this is how you treat patients at such a sensitive clinic. I didn’t get the old lady’s name, but I didn’t deserve how she treated me today. Neither does any other patient who visits this place. I spoke to her with respect and patience, while she lashed at me immediately for no reason. If you expect to visit and be treated kindly and with respect, don’t risk running into this lady and go somewhere else.

The nicest person there was the front desk receptionist. The nurse that took my vitals did not have great bedside manner. She barely spoke, and did not explain at all what to expect. I find it very awkward and inappropriate that they ask for a donation at checkout, especially when many people coming here are already in such a vulnerable state.

Had two different experiences, for 2 different appointments.
First one was for what I thought was going to be the removal of my implant and insertion of the mirena IUD. Front desk experience was annoying in all honesty. The First Lady I talked to when checking in was okay with relying the message that I had to either do the removal or insertion for the visit since insurance would not cover the cost of both. I then asked well let me pay for the removal and the insurance can cover the insertion right? Nope the person sitting next to her chimed in and said no we can’t do that. Okay why?? I’m offering to pay out of pocket for the removal? Lol anyways whatever I just say let’s get the IUD insertion and I got rescheduled for the removal for the next week. I get called from the MA to be brought back, I brought my partner for support as one should but she came off so rude to him and to me saying he’s not going in till she gets her side done. That’s fine but why come off so aggressive about it. I then get walked into the room and coming into the appointment I had only done research on the specific Mirena IUD and that is what I wanted, we are going over my chart and I notice the box doesn’t say Mirena, so I ask as I hope any other person would on why it doesn’t say Mirena on the box. She got very defensive saying it’s just another brand same formula and it’s cheaper in price. Okay well I’m already here but why not be upfront saying they don’t have the Mirena and just assume patients would be okay with that alternative brand?
I get set up for the doctor to come in, partner was now allowed to come into the room. Doc comes in and straight off the bat I got the sense that she was in a rush to just get it done. I then ask for reassurance since the MA couldn’t, that this formula is in fact the same as the Mirena she says yes so I went ahead with the insertion. When I tell you I was absolutely disappointed by the care I got is such an understatement. It’s an invasive insertion, my first one, didn’t know what to expect. Well she measures does whatever she needs to do for placement. That is totally fine, she then tell me she was going to put some numbing in the area so the pain won’t be as bad, and steps back and says “we are going to give this a few minutes to kick in “ I shit you not, not ever 1 minute past when she grabbed the IUD and just inserted. The pain and anger I felt was unbelievable. My partner and I just stared and each other with disgust. I didn’t want to be there anymore. I got up put on my clothes went to the front desk to check out and left.
Second appointment was definitely just night and day difference. Front desk automatically handed me a bottle for a sample, but I questioned it saying I need this just for a removal? And denied it. MA and Doctor were such amazing people, both sweet, handled with care. Those are the kind of people that should be in the health care field not the people I dealt with on the first visit in my opinion.
Do better!
