I came in for pregnancy termination which can already make you very nervous but upon arrival I sat down with my partner and quickly heard the receptionist loudly gossiping about a teenage girl that came in with her mom and found out she was much further along than she expected. That made me extremely uncomfortable but much like some of the other reviews, you keep your mouth shut to get through it no matter what because our healthcare system doesn’t care about women and our options are abysmal. Everything was fine besides my nerves being bad due to having cptsd and already having trouble spreading my legs for doctors but having had an abortion at home for a miscarriage before after 9 weeks I didnt want to have it done with professionals around. When it came down to it I expressed my concerns with the doctor, she was very cold and didn’t seem to have any empathy left so I chickened out. Being put under would have been fine but partial sedation for someone with cptsd sounded risky when met with those cold blue eyes. I knew I didn’t trust myself to remain calm and them to handle it. When I spoke to the nurse about it after telling the doctor I felt uncomfortable moving forward she said “no offense but we’ve had patients in here that are bigger than you”. Which…she wasn’t small at all so that felt pretty tone deaf. I ended up going back and just getting the pills from them to do it alone at home with my partner. Sadly that felt like the best option given the circumstances. The nurse checking me in the second time was much colder than the first time, after intake I was put into a very small dirty room and given the pills to start the process before being sent home to handle what happened next. Overall I’m thankful that the service exists but women deserve better. We deserve care, compassion, and respect during these times. I was able to end my pregnancy but unfortunately the experience furthered my frustration with our healthcare system a great deal

I’ll just say this…the doctor was nice, the lady who assisted her during my procedure was okay (I didn’t really communicate with her but she had a non judgmental look on her face so that’s always nice), and the lady who gave me my vaccine was okay as well.
Unfortunately the Hampton and Chesapeake location does not do the procedure I needed, that’s why I have to come to this location. Overall my experience here was better once I got called in for my procedure (if you know what I mean) and after waiting an hour to be called in the first place.
My rating is not favorable due to other things that I choose not to mention just in case I need to come back here, and not having to feel more uncomfortable than I did the first time 🙂

I am a rape survivor who had never been able to get a pap smear before Planned Parenthood - I'd been laughed at, shamed, and even threatened with institutionalization by other outside providers for my PTSD, including ones who claimed to be "trauma-informed".
The staff here, however, were *so* incredibly compassionate & helpful. The combo of nitrous oxide and a very understanding staff has made PP the only place I can or will go for care! I would highly recommend them for other survivors who struggle to find compassionate care, because they are fantastic.
