I am writing this review as the close friend of someone who saw Dorothy for several months. He had struggled to find a therapist and was genuinely excited to begin working with her. Three appointments were scheduled and kept before he returned to work and needed to adjust his meeting times. From his perspective, things were going well, and he requested a standing appointment to maintain consistency around his schedule. This is where the breakdown began. Weekly appointments were scheduled through the portal, as instructed. However, each week the appointment would be canceled — sometimes at the last minute. One was rescheduled to a different date, another was switched to virtual without much notice. As a professional himself, scrambling to secure a private location for a last-minute virtual session was impractical. During one virtual session, Dorothy was also late. The final appointment was canceled two days prior, with the explanation that she had another appointment scheduled three months earlier. At that point, it was difficult to understand how the scheduling portal did not align with her personal calendar. Despite my encouragement to consider other providers, he chose to continue the relationship because starting over is difficult — especially when you’ve finally opened up to someone. Attempts to clarify scheduling issues via text created more confusion, so he requested a phone call. It took nearly four days to receive one. During that call, Dorothy agreed she would personally call if an appointment needed to be canceled so it could be rescheduled promptly. She also stated the portal had been updated. He scheduled another appointment. It was canceled again. He was told she wasn’t sure why the portal was allowing him to book. He waited for the promised phone call. It never came. When he followed up requesting an appointment, he was told his communication was “borderline harassment.” Let’s be clear: asking for therapy — a service previously provided — is not harassment. Asking for clarification is not harassment. Following up after repeated cancellations is not harassment. As a social worker myself, I understand professional boundaries, response time expectations (24 hours is standard), and the reality that life happens. However, canceled appointments, inconsistent communication, delayed follow-up, and labeling a client’s attempts to access care as harassment reflect a concerning level of unprofessionalism. Therapy is already difficult to pursue in our community. The shortage of Black therapists makes access even more limited. Experiences like this discourage people from seeking care at all. This review is not written out of malice. It is written out of disappointment. Clients — regardless of how “difficult” they may be — deserve dignity, clarity, and accountability. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used as an opportunity for growth. Do better.

I was referred to Dorothy by a friend of mine and this was my 2nd visit to Dorothy, and I am really liking my visits. Dorothy is really helping me get through the things that I need to. One thing I like is she is very knowledgeable in her field and compassionate words my needs. Her office is very warm, inviting and relaxing. I like that I can schedule my appointments on a portal at my leisure. As a client, I do recommend that if you need a therapist give Dorothy a call. It is worth it.

I do not recommend this provider due to ongoing scheduling failures and unprofessional communication. In one month alone, I experienced multiple cancellations, scheduling errors, late starts, and last-minute changes, including unexpected switches to virtual sessions. After being told the calendar was accurate and instructed to book through the portal, I scheduled an appointment that was later canceled because the time was “not actually available.” This reflects serious disorganization. When I followed up after waiting more than 24 hours for clarification, my message was labeled “borderline harassment.” Attempting to confirm an appointment after repeated scheduling issues is not harassment — it is a reasonable expectation of care. There is no office staff or reliable scheduling support; all communication occurs via text message. Nearly three weeks passed without being seen due to repeated disruptions. Continuity of care and professionalism should be standard in healthcare, and unfortunately, that was not my experience. I ultimately chose to seek services elsewhere.

A former friend who is a Nurse told me about her experience of working with Dorothy at Total Wellbeing saying that she was compassionate, caring, and insightful. She shared that she found Dorothy because of her specialized training in EMDR treatment and I definitely see the difference in my friend.
