This is assisted living technically, but with a memory care license, so it's been perfect for our 91 year old father. He enjoys having his own belongings/furniture in his room. Also, he enjoys meals with his new buddies. The nurses are very caring. I think Dad has "won them over"😁

My great grandfather lived in this home and did not receive proper care. There were several times he would have bruises and black eyes and the staff could never tell us why. This goes to show that they do not regularly check on the residents. In addition to that, the place is just gross. It smells awful and is unclean. The staff is awful, and do not do the job they are paid to do. They are also rude and treat guests so disrespectfully. Do not bring your loved ones here, there are several other places in lubbock that provide much better care.

This is a long review based on my mine and my family’s experience with having our loved one in Brookdale’s care. If you do not want to read all of it just know that if your loved one is on oxygen and needs help in the restroom do not bring them here. It is filthy and the staff are negligent. I don’t know how this place is able to get such good reviews. My grandfather has been staying here and along with extra help from home health aids he has been receiving terrible care. He needs to be on oxygen and needs help using the restroom. His oxygen cannula has been repeatedly forgot about and not replaced when he pulls it out. I understand he cannot be watched 24/7 but every hour or so would suffice. I watched an employee act like she was fixing it and then take it out and only get one side in his nose. I had to redo it after she messed it for what seems like no reason. His blood oxygen levels have reached low 50s and his pulse has dipped as low as 25! We have found his oxygen completely off before. It also went missing once. It’s an oxygen machine my family pays for! It’s not Brookdale’s, it’s his. The least they can do is check every hour or two that his oxygen is in, on, and functioning properly. He’s always left to sit in wet diapers smelling like pee. His stuff goes missing constantly, which upon questioning why his stuff is missing the employees say other residents take it. Fair enough but we pay more than enough for his supplies, which are not included in the outrageous cost, that he should not have to wear undergarments meant for women. My toddler and I were visiting one day and he was opening drawers in the sitting area across from the front desk. I was following behind him making sure to put everything back that he touched and in one of the drawers he opened there was a moldy chicken bone. I have always been treated well by the staff and I have tried so hard these last few months to give them the benefit of the doubt but there is absolutely no reason his blood oxygen levels and pulse should have gotten so low so often. I could go on but I will be doing everything I can to report this place for neglect. I have tried contacting the office several times and they have been ignoring my calls. The few people I did talk to were either rude or not helpful. This is not okay. This place is mismanaged and does not hire or train people properly to take care of elderly patients. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the level of care he needs in our home and we were completely mislead that Brookdale Monterey was capable of providing my grandfather the care he needs.

Overall, our family had very few issues while our loved one lived at Brookdale Monterey. The facility was always clean, the staff was very patient and loving, the food was good, and the family was cared for during the most difficult time in our lives. The hallways are wide and there is a lot of natural light. Our family member's symptoms included anger and violence and the staff put up with his behavior graciously and with love. At the end of his life when he could no longer do anything for himself, they treated him with dignity and respect. The food is delicious, and I was able to eat with my husband at no extra charge. The kitchen staff brewed coffee for him when he wanted it and also fixed extra food for him to address his picky eating habits. I was never told that I could not visit him at any hour of the day or night and was always let in when I came unannounced in the middle of the night when he was having issues. I could spend the night whenever I needed to for his comfort and feelings of security. It became my home away from home. The staff created a rapport with him, flirted with him, joked around with him and catered to the demands he made on them - he was testing them to see just how far they would go to do what he wanted. They never acted put out or tired of taking care of his needs when he needed special care towards the end of his life. They went above and beyond to get out ahead of his constant changing needs. When he passed away, they were tender, compassionate, emotional and loving. We did have a few glitches with his care towards the end of his life. He fell and was left on the floor too long because rounds were not on time and there were some issues with his medications, but the issues were taken seriously, addressed immediately and didn't happen again. I have experience with several different long term care facilities and none of them are perfect. This one is by far the best and I highly recommend Brookdale Monterey to anyone looking for long term care for their loved one.

My family member moved in to Brookdale Monterrey the week that all assisted living facilities across the nation went into “lockdown” due to COVID. I was nervous and concerned, since we couldn’t visit…but I worried for nothing! The staff was so understanding during that time and went above and beyond to keep me informed of exactly what was going on. Since then, I’ve come to know the staff very well and have found them to be conscientious, kind and compassionate. It is obvious they care about the residents and want them to be happy. I’m so thankful I found Brookdale when I did!
