- FFFreddy4 days ago1.0This was my first time at Stanton Optical, and definitely will be my last. The virtual eye exam itself went fine, but I never spoke to a doctor before, during or after the exam. I was never given my exam results either. Not even a “everything looks good.” To this day, I don’t know the results of my exam, which feels like an incomplete visit. When it came time to discuss glasses, I was quoted around $400, which immediately confused me since I only needed basic readers with a very low prescription. This was my first time ever needing glasses. I repeatedly told both the manager and the employee helping me that I only wanted what my insurance covers, nothing extra. Despite this, they were very persistent about adding multiple upgrades. Which I declined multiple times. My insurance covers $180. After repeatedly asking them to keep it simple, I was told my out-of-pocket cost would be $122. I questioned this several times and was told that my insurance “doesn’t cover that much” and that I was basically paying for the lenses while insurance covered the frames. Being new to glasses, I trusted what I was told and paid. Once I got home, I reviewed the receipt and was shocked to see charges that were never explained or offered to me: Premium anti-glare coating- $23.98 (had declined repeatedly), Lens warranty- $25 (never offered, I would have declined) and Frame club- $49 (absolutely never mentioned and would’ve declined) I specifically and repeatedly asked for only what my insurance covered. Adding these items without clear consent is unacceptable. I called the store less than 20 minutes after leaving to cancel the order and was told it couldn’t be canceled because it was already processed. I told them I would be there the next day for my refund and to go ahead and cancel the order. The next day, I contacted customer service, which was not helpful, and I’m still waiting on a callback 8 days and counting. Although a refund was initiated, it has not yet posted, and it has been 8 days. For comparison, I went to another optical provider and paid $29 out of pocket for what I actually needed, no pressure, no hidden add-ons. This experience felt misleading and extremely frustrating. The upselling tactics, lack of transparency, and adding services without approval make it hard to trust this business. I would not recommend Stanton Optical and will not be returning.
