It’s an emotional time and the last thing I wanted to do was pick a company. Between looking online for local companies and the recommendation of the hospital, we came across North Star Hospice, and they were ABSOLUTELY the right choice. The fact that they were local to Galveston was so reassuring. Tiva was so quick, accommodating and warm - we had the details rounded out within an hour of our initial phone call and it made it so easy. Suzanne and Ariel were amazing and never hesitated to answer our questions (even at odd hours!) The care and attention given by the entire team at North Star Hospice made it possible to give our loved one the best care in his final days, and we will be forever grateful to them.

But the hat she wears as a hospice nurse is one to admire. I’ve had the privilege of having her care for two of my loved ones in their last days. The love and compassion she showed my mother and grandfather I cannot put into words. The patience and empathy she showed me was even greater. There was no question left unanswered, and no request not met. In a matter of hours everything I would need to care for my mom arrived at my home, big and small…all the just in case stuff too. She was so patient with my mom, helping her remain calm after a stressful transfer from the nursing facility. Explaining to my mom everything she was doing, and making sure it was the way she wanted…in the most loving and caring way. I was obviously in a whirlwind, but she organized everything, making notes for me, knowing everything that was on my mind. Assuring me I could do this and that she was just a phone call away if I needed anything or had any questions. Everything happened very fast and I didn’t have organ donation paperwork ready when she passed. Suzanne not only took care of the final things after her passing…she sat down with me, helping me make phone calls to finalize her donation, because I was lost. She makes sure your loved one passes on with dignity and peace. She stayed with my mom until the very last moment even making sure the funeral home showed her dignity in transport. When I say I couldn’t have made it through this without her, I mean it. She and Tiva made one of the hardest moments of my life much easier…they just get it. They not only understand the patient and their needs…they understand the family, what they are going through and what they need. That is special, and I am forever grateful to North Star Hospice for everything they did to make this time easier for my mom and myself.
