Dr. Arthur has been great, the surgery itself went seamless. What has been extremely frustrating is waiting at the follow up visits. Today I had an appointment at 9:15am, it is now 10:23am and I am still waiting. It’s absolutely inconsiderate of their patients schedules. I understand they have patients to see, but they are overbooking their doctors and for what? An extra $100? I also work in healthcare and if we were this far behind on our schedules, we would be calling patients ahead of time to update them or reschedule them. I’m furious, this has happened 2 times now and is absolutely not okay. Manage your time better.
**came back to edit, after them stating someone was coming to get me and bring me back, I sat in the exam room another 18 minutes before I left.**

Dr was on time. Efficient. Was greeted heartily and with enthusiasm by Dr Callendine. Felt like he was excited to see me. Felt good from the beginning. He communicated clearly and succinctly. His professionalism, knowledge, and commitment reinforced my judgment in selecting him as my Ortho Dude.

I’ve been with Dr. Looney and Bone and Joint for years. He’s a great doctor and surgeon, listens to patients, and takes the time to get to know you and answer all your questions. His PA, Beck Bledsoe is also wonderful. Knows his stuff and is very thorough in explaining your condition and treatment.

Dr Stark is an excellent surgeon. I had my ACL and meniscus repaired/replaced July 10 and have done excellent. Saw Dr Stark for a follow up on Nov 4 and he released me to normal activity. I have an ACL stabilizing brace that he advised me wearing for strenuous activities, but other than that I’m going.

Dr. Ian Byram and his staff at the Bone and Joint Institute did an incredible job with my total anatomical shoulder replacement surgery in June of 2025. If you need shoulder replacement surgery, I 100% recommend Dr. Byram. Dr. Byram has a great bedside manner and never pushed me into having surgery in the two plus years I’ve seen him. The initial treatment plan was to treat my shoulder pain with guided steroid injections until I decided it was time for surgery. From the first time we met he never pushed to have immediate surgery, but said you will tell me when it is time for surgery. After two years, I decided the daily pain, lack of motion had impacted daily life and lack of sleep made me decide it was time for the surgery. I am now 4+ months into my recovery. After surgery I only took the non-narcotic pain relievers that were prescribed so pain was never an issue. Following the PT regime is incredibly important in recovery. At this time, I have no pain in my right shoulder and have 165-170 degrees of vertical reach which will allow me to have a normal life after full recovery. I can’t thank my wife Rebecca enough for her help. In the first two weeks after surgery you will need significant support from someone. As time goes by the amount of support will diminish, but the first two weeks will be nearly impossible unless you have assistance. I spent hours researching what the first two weeks after surgery would be like what items should be purchased to assist in with recovery. Here is a list of items to consider based on my experience:
• Make sure that your HSA credit card daily limit is changed to allow for the cost of your deductible or bring another form of payment.
• I have an adjustable bed and chair which made the initial recovery much easier.
• Donjoy - Ultrasling IV or similar - shoulder abduction sling - this will be your new best friend so buy a good one. You will sleep in it.
• Donjoy Clear 3 ice therapy machine – rent or buy. Buy a separate shoulder wrap-on pad
• Counter top ice machine - capacity must be 20lbs+ per 24 hours
• Grip jar opener - mounts under counter
• 36” long handled shoe horn
• Sock aid - Sock assist- great for putting your own socks on
• 32” Grabber reaching tool
• Bed ladder assist, pull up helper
• Deyeek shoulder surgery shirts - have snaps for easy on/off
• Athletic pants - easy on/off
• Dycem non-slip pads - helps with one handed life
• Seatbelt catcher
• Smart Wi-Fi electric plugs - Kasa or others - connect lights, ice machine and other items for couch control
• Other items I purchased but really didn’t use much
o Vivi zipper pull and button hook
o Electric jar opener - it works with Dycem pads
