I was a patient here about 3.5 years ago during my first pregnancy. At my second prenatal appointment, after gaining about 10 pounds, Dr. Laila Muallem looked at my chart and said to me, word for word: “Girl… what have you been eating????” I remember feeling embarrassed, judged, and caught off guard. Instead of receiving information, reassurance, or compassion, I felt shamed about my body at a very vulnerable time. That comment stuck with me my entire pregnancy. Because of that interaction, I chose to leave the practice. At the time I was intimidated and didn’t feel comfortable speaking up for myself, but I’m now pregnant with my second child and this still bothers me — which is why I’m finally sharing it. I want other pregnant women to know why I left. Words matter, especially when you’re hormonal, scared, and doing your best. A provider should never make a patient feel humiliated about normal pregnancy weight gain. I hope this feedback helps create more awareness and compassion in the future. I also hope that Laila seeing this and takes this to heart and does better in the future. Let’s do better.

Love the private aspect of the practice. Always willing to answer any questions I may have. After being to other on/gyn offices attached to hospitals and it was a nightmare experience. Dr Muallem definitely has his patient’s best interest in mind no matter what he is discussing.

I’ve been going to Dr. Muallem since my doctor retired many years. Several people in my family go to Dr. Muallem and we all rave about how pleased we are with him being our OBGYN. Very attentive and pleasant atmosphere, along with very knowledgeable in his practice.

Dr. Nabel Muallem is the most amazing doctor. I have been seeing him 22+ years and He has always been receptive to my concerns and given appropriate and helpful medical advice. His medical knowledge of women’s health and bedside manner exceed expectation.

Dr Muallem is patient, kind, and caring. He calls personally with test results, and has a practical and humanizing approach to caring for his patients. If I could clone him into every kind of medical specialist I would, but to date my attempts have failed. (Jk) In all seriousness he saved my life ten years ago by gently insisting that I get a mammogram when I thought I was too busy to do so; I kept putting it off and he kept reminding me until eventually I went and discovered that I had breast cancer. It was early and with treatment my oncologist says I’m unlikely to have any recurrence. If I had waited like I wanted to I might not be here seeing my kids grow up now. So if you are looking for a practice that really cares and goes the extra mile, this is the one for you.
