The kind people at Traditions were wonderful. They walked me through the process and were patient to answer my questions. They were great to keep the communication lines open. Though our time with them was very short, I will forever be grateful for how they helped my mom transition peacefully and with so much love. Thank you, Traditions.

On March 28, my Brother Randy Scansen lost his fight with lung cancer that metastasized to the brain. Initially, Randy was living at River Park Senior living in Sheridan, Oregon. Traditions Hospice was assigned to help him through his last few months of life. I don’t even know where to start in thanking our Traditions Team. Vicki, Scott and Chaplain Ellen were so instrumental in ensuring Randy was safe in an assisted living environment. As Randy’s condition worsened Randy became a danger to himself and others as he found his way to the open highways. Scott had called me and told me we really need to consider moving Randy to a memory care facility. While the River Park tried their best to control him, they could not. After another incident where Randy got out, I called Scott and said let’s make the move. Finally after a couple of weeks we got Randy accepted at Iuditas Memory Care in Salem. With me living in California I was struggling to find a way to move Randy’s belongings. The Traditions Team of Fran, Vicki and others stepped up. They obtained approval to assist with the move. Using their personal vehicles they moved all of Randy’s belongings 40 miles from River Park in Sheridan to Iuditas Memory Care in Salem. They did not have to do this. Chad and Sam took over as the Hospice Nurses caring for Randy. The week of 23 - 28 March 2024 was extremely trying. The Hospice Team could sense the end was near as they made plans to see Randy multiple times per day. Every time they would visit, they would call and let me know how it was going. Chaplain Ellen was lying on the floor with Randy holding his hand and reading him stories from the bible. She knew Randy wanted her near to provide comfort to him. Chad and Chaplain Ellen called me on the morning of March 28 and asked if I wanted to say my final words to him. Of course I did and was so appreciative that I had the chance. That evening Randy passed. Peacefully, thanks to Traditions Hospice and especially Chaplain Ellen. On April 2nd I got a call from Chaplain Ellen. She called to see how the family was doing. We talked for about 25 minutes. She just loved Randy. She said he is such a talker. She would bring him doughnuts or fast food for him to eat. While he was able to speak, when she would go visit him, they would just sit and told stories. Neither judging the other. He would talk at length about his brothers. She said at the very end he still knew his brothers by name. These are just some of the amazing things Traditions Hospice did for my Brother and our Family. I will never forget what you all have done. I know I have forgot some of the Team that cared for my Brother. Please pass on my sincere thanks for all that your Team did to care for my Brother. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You are an amazing Team! Steve Scansen
