I had made an appointment with Moses-Mouser after much thought about finding an eye doctor closer to my home. It was easy to get an appointment. Everyone in the office was friendly,
helpful. I saw Dr. Morris for my exam. He was very thorough and I felt he was knowledgeable. My exam went very well. I came back a few days later to get new glasses. Michele was very helpful and patient. She picked out several styles she thought I would like. I completed my order. She said it would be about 2 weeks for them to be ready. They called about 8 days later to say they were in. I made an appointment, arrived to pick them up and I was thrilled that I could see so much better. I have found my new
eye doctor!! a

My vision is fine; why should I regularly see an eye doctor?
Routine eye exams are the only way to catch silent diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, and other conditions in their early stages when these conditions and diseases can be easily managed or treated.
Do you screen for glaucoma and cataracts?
Yes, we screen for glaucoma and cataracts as part of the thorough eye exam you’ll receive from the eye specialists at Moses-Mouser & Associates. A complete diagnosis of your overall eye health includes several different types of tests that look at various factors related to eye health care including tests that determine inner eye pressure, the shape and color of the optic nerve, your complete field of vision, and the thickness and angle of the eye’s cornea.
These tests help us determine the proper diagnosis and treatment plan that is right for you. Your eyes are often seen as the window into your overall health. Indeed, a thorough eye examination performed on a regular basis by professional optometrists and ophthalmologists can help detect such life-altering conditions as high blood pressure and the onset of diabetes.
I have been wearing eyeglasses for a long time. Can I switch to contact lenses, and are the prescriptions pretty much the same for both?
In some cases, the transition from eyeglasses to contact lenses is a smooth one. However, before that determination can be made, a comprehensive eye examination must be made by a trained and experienced optometrist or ophthalmologist to make certain your eyes can wear contact lenses, and if so, what type of lens is best for you.
Since eyeglasses sit a short distance from the eye, whereas contact lenses sit directly on the eye, the prescriptions can be quite different. One of the experienced eye care specialists with Moses-Mouser can provide a quality examination to determine if there is any eye disease present, what low vision aids are preferable, and what prescription is best for you.
I am a new patient; what is my eye doctor looking for during the visit?
During the visit, your doctor will use various optometry equipment, tests, and procedures to get a clear picture of your overall eye health. First, the Dr. will perform a thorough examination of the outer and inner surface of your eye. The Dr. will also ask you about your current health history, including if you have any noticeable issues with your eyes, such as blurry vision, itchiness, or eye twitches.
Your family history is important, too. Your Dr. will ask about whether anyone in your family has had a diagnosis of an ocular disease like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration.
Depending on your specific needs, your Dr. may also check the inner eye pressure and certain other factors. The rest of your visit will focus on how well you see and if your eyes work together properly.
Based on what is found during the examination, your Dr. will let you know about the state of your vision, eye health, and vision plans.
For more information about eye and vision exams, this article by the American Academy of Ophthalmology delivers the basics.
Does a vision exam hurt?
No. Some patients might say there is a bit of discomfort during a vision exam, like when asked to look into a bright light or when your inner eye pressure is measured (done by directing a bright light or when administering the dilation drops). However, exams are painless, safe, and relatively quick.
What is a dilated vision exam?
Dilation of your eyes gives your Dr. the ability to see inside your eyes and evaluate the health and the important structures within, including the light-sensitive retinas.
How often should you get vision exams?
We recommend that everyone receives a vision exam at least yearly, even if you see well and do not think you need eyeglasses or contact lenses. The eyes are unique and do not have pain-detecting nerves on the inside. If there is an issue, you will not know unless your vision is affected. Therefore, prevention is the key to eye care.
When should my child’s first eye care exam be?
At Moses-Mouser & Associates, we recommend a child’s first exam should be around age 1. Then again, at the age of 3, before starting grade school (between the age of 5-6 years), and yearly after that. If you notice any concerns with your child—an eye turn, excessive rubbing of the eyes, needing to hold toys close to see —be sure to call sooner.
If there is a problem with your child’s sight, it is best to correct it as quickly as possible as eyesight is crucial for intellectual development—it would be challenging to learn to read, walk, eat, and play if you cannot see!
Are walk-ins welcome?
We would love to offer walk-ins, but we also want to give you and your eyes the best care possible. In order to do so, we need to allot a certain amount of time to each of our patients. So, unfortunately, we do not accept walk-ins to purchase prescription eyewear, but we would be happy to arrange for an appointment at either our Canal Winchester or Grove City locations.
Where can I buy prescription glasses?
We sell the frames in our Columbus area offices in Canal Winchester and Grove City, so feel free to try on as many as you like to find the perfect pair of glasses for you. Once you select the frames, then we order the prescription, and your new prescription eyeglasses will be available at our office for pickup.
How to pick the right glasses frame for your face?
There is no formula or rules to follow when it comes to picking frames. It is honestly completely up to you and your style. We can provide advice about how well a pair of frames fits your face, but the final decision comes down to you. Make it a fun experience!
How much do prescription lenses cost?
Glasses are hard to price because each frame/prescription combo is unique. Lenses differ in price by the strength and abnormality of the prescription as well as the unique coatings, finishes, and color options available for today’s lenses. Frames vary based on brand, style, and demand. We are happy to give you an estimate when you visit our offices in Canal Winchester and Grove City.
Can I get insurance for my glasses?
We are covered by most insurance plans. Insurance coverage varies by insurance company. We have provided a list of acceptable insurance providers. Also, learn more about eyeglasses coverage through Medicare. Some providers cover either glasses – including frames and lenses – or contacts. Some providers only cover one or the other, and some provide only minimum coverage. It is in your best interest to contact your eye insurance provider and inquire how much coverage you are entitled to.
How do you get fitted for contact lenses?
To guarantee there is a good contact lens fit that is suitable for your needs, your eye doctor will first perform a thorough eye exam and lens fitting. This comprehensive process allows your eye care provider to take a deep look at your eye health and vision needs to determine which type of lens would suit you best.
Once your optometrist determines that your eyes can wear contact lenses comfortably, the next step is finding a pair of contact lenses suitable for your needs.
After your initial fitting, your eye doctor will provide a few samples of trial contact lenses for you to wear until your follow-up appointment. If your contact lens starts to feel uncomfortable or causes irritation, remove it immediately and give your Moses-Mouser office a call as soon as you can.
Your lenses might need some additional adjustments to ensure a good fit and Moses-Mouser is happy to make them. Just let your eye care professional know during your follow-up appointment to adjust your prescription before ordering your supply of lenses.
Are eyeglass prescriptions and contact lens prescriptions the same?
Although your contact lens and eyeglass prescription may look similar, it does not mean this will give you the same visual acuity if you try to convert one to the other. Glasses sit slightly away from your eyes, and contact lenses sit directly over your eye, so two different tests and measurements are required. Depending on the refractive error, the strength of the lens needed to correct it, and the type of contact lens you need, the parameters specified on your glasses prescription may be significantly different from those on your contact lens prescription.
Can I buy contact lenses over the counter?
You can buy contact lenses online, but you must have a valid contact lens prescription from your eye care professional. Once you have a valid prescription, you may buy contact lenses anywhere you like.
By The Contact Lens Rule and for your safety, you can only purchase the brand of contact lens your eye doctor prescribed using a valid prescription.
I have read some stuff about hard contact lenses. Is there a difference between soft lenses and hard lenses?
There is a difference between these contact lenses. If you choose to wear soft contacts, you can expect an easy adjustment from glasses if you have never worn contacts before. Soft contact lenses are light, soft, and made of a very flexible silicone hydrogel that forms the eye shape and helps stay put. Oxygen is able to pass through the soft contact lens easily and can help contribute to your eye’s overall health.
Hard contacts or rigid contacts are a little different than soft contact lenses. Hard contacts are necessary for some patients with unique eye conditions, such as keratoconus or irregular astigmatism. These rigid contact lenses can potentially provide very crisp and clear vision and are very easy to care for. Hard contacts are incredibly durable and can last 2-3 years with correct proper hygiene before needing to be replaced.
What are the side effects of cataract surgery?
It is important to note side effects are rare after cataract surgery. The side effects can include eye infection, swelling, bleeding, retinal detachment, drooping eyelid, and temporary rise in eye pressure.
What does recovery look like after cataract surgery?
After surgery, your eyes will be sensitive, and they may itch or feel sore. Your doctor will give you eye drops to prevent infection. You will need to rest and restrict movement for a couple of days in order to support your recovery. Your doctor may suggest for you to sleep with an eye shield to prevent any damage during sleep.
How long does it take for eyes to heal after cataract surgery?
It takes 8 weeks for your eyes to completely heal after cataract surgery.
What complications can result from cataract surgery?
The complications from cataract surgery include infection, inflammation, retinal detachment, lens fragments, fluid buildup in the retina, dislocated intraocular lens (IOL), secondary cataract, swelling in the cornea, bleeding, floaters or flashes of light, high eye pressure, light sensitivity, droopy eyelid, dysphotopsia.
What is the procedure time for cataract surgery?
Cataract surgery is a very quick procedure and often takes no longer than 10 minutes.
What is a cataract? What are the symptoms?
A cataract is a cloudy film that forms over the lens of the eye, causing blurry vision. If untreated, a cataract can lead to vision loss and even cause blindness.
What causes cataracts?
Cataracts are caused by natural changes that occur within the eye as you get older. Proteins in the eye’s lens break down and start to congeal, causing a milky or cloudy film to appear over the lens. Because this is a gradual process, you may not recognize the symptoms or immediately notice changes to your eyesight. This is why regular eye exams are so important.
Are cataracts hereditary?
Yes and no. Cataracts are typically not considered hereditary. Most people who develop them do so in their 50s or 60s as the result of natural changes occurring within the eye. However, cataracts may, in some instances, be present at birth. These are called congenital cataracts. Also, if parents have cataracts, there’s at least the possibility that the child could develop them, too, earlier in life.
How pervasive are cataracts?
Cataracts affect approximately 24 million Americans over the age of 40. By age 75, nearly half of all Americans will suffer from cataracts.
Can cataracts be prevented?
There are a number of things you can do that don’t involve surgery to prevent the possibility of cataracts. These also offer the added benefit of improving your overall health and well-being:
If you have corrective eyewear such as glasses or contact lenses, make sure they are well-fitted and prescribed perfectly to suit your vision correction needs. The caring staff at Moses-Mouser & Associates can help you improve your vision and provide you with a comprehensive array of eye health regimes and solutions as part of their excellent optometry services.
1. Be mindful of your blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Hypertension puts you at greater risk of developing cataracts. Diabetic eye care is equally important, as high blood sugar levels in people with diabetes may make them predisposed to cataracts.
2. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating healthy foods and maintaining an appropriate exercise routine.
3. Limit excessive smoking and use of alcoholic beverages. In addition to your eyes, your skin, hair, heart, and liver will thank you.
4. When outdoors on sunny days, be sure to wear sunglasses or a hat with a brim to protect your eyes from the harsh glare of the sun.
5. Get regular eye examinations by professionally-trained ophthalmologists, like the doctors and staff at Moses-Mouser & Associates.

It is recommended to have a vision exam at least yearly, even if you have no vision problems, to detect early-stage silent diseases that affect eye health.
Are eyeglass prescriptions and contact lens prescriptions the same?
