  I had some cavities filled, and told the dentist that work I had done at a different dentist made my night retainer not work properly anymore. He told me they'd refer me to an orthodontist, that my insurance should cover it, and that my retainer was "archaic", and they have new things out now. I went to put my retainer in later that night, and it didn't fit anymore because of the cavities they filled. I called them the next day to let them know, and they said the orthodontist would make me a new one. I called the ortho next to see if they needed my old retainer, and to confirm my appt. They said I didn't need my old retainer anymore. At no point did anyone tell me my insurance didn't cover the orthodontist, until I showed up to the appt and was taken into the back area. It's $700 for a new retainer. All of a sudden, Refresh Dental could "adjust my teeth to fit my old retainer", which I already got rid of because everyone told me I no longer needed it. My family doesn't have $700 for a new retainer, and the dentist refuses to help at all. Their response was, "these things just happen sometimes." They also filled my cavities so close that I can no longer floss in between several teeth, and they told me that was better. My teeth have shifted so far apart in this time, and there's nothing I can do but try and save up for a while for a new retainer, while my smile gets more crooked. They gave us less quality care because we have medicaid insurance. My husband confronted a woman from the front desk over the phone about it and she said nothing to deny it. We do not recommend Refresh Dental for anything.

  Scheduled an appointment for a cleaning. When I got there they took X-rays and then told me I had to come back for the cleaning. I was told sometimes the hygienist can do cleans and sometimes they have too many patients to do a cleaning. Which is understandable if my appointment wasn’t for a cleaning. They scheduled another appointment for a cleaning. But rescheduled by the facility without notifying me about a reschedule or asking me what works for me. I called with questions and found out during the call that the facility changed my appointment. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was told one will call me back that day. It’s been over a week and I have yet to get a call back. If I could give a zero star I would. The absolute worst experience ever.

  After calling multiple times, leaving messages, and not getting called back, I finally managed to schedule an appointment at this place. That was on 7/18/25. My appointment was today, on 9/24/25, and they told me that I was never scheduled. Absolutely insane that that can even happen. They rescheduled me for tomorrow but it’s ridiculous how persistent I have had to be with these people and how completely disinterested in me as a patient they are. It’s like they don’t want more patients, or like they’re too good for the people who literally keep their lights on. Unfortunately this is the only place in Austintown that accepts my insurance as far as I know. If you can avoid this office, please do. You’re liable to never even get an appointment here, and if you do, they’re going to mess it up somehow. If my appointment actually happens tomorrow I might change my rating, but for now, I’d rate this place 0/5 if I could.

  What a great dental office! They were able to get my elderly mother in for an emergency appointment within 24 hours. We were so relieved because my Dad had taken her to another dentist who wanted her to wait over 3 weeks for an emergency appointment (just to give her a referral!) The staff treated her and my Dad so kindly! Offered to refer her to an oral surgeon or to schedule her needed extractions with Dr. Matta himself. Really appreciate the wonderful care! Thank you!
