I’ve never in my life been told by a dental hygienist that I “cannot dictate care.” Let me spell it out: patients absolutely have the right to refuse any procedure, test, or screening. That’s called autonomy. It’s the foundation of medicine. But apparently this know-it-all hygienist thinks she outranks the law, common sense, and even my own body. I wasn’t refusing treatment—I simply declined a blood pressure reading due to white coat syndrome, a very real and well-documented condition. Instead of professionalism, I got arrogance, bullying, and a power trip from someone who isn’t even a dentist. The audacity of a hygienist trying to lecture me that I “can’t dictate care” is laughable. News flash: I dictate everything that happens to me, and the only thing this office dictates is how fast patients walk out the door. If this is how they treat people who advocate for themselves, imagine how they behave when someone is vulnerable or doesn’t push back. I walked out and I’ll never return. There are plenty of dentists who understand patient rights and don’t let their staff talk down to people like they’re children. This office? Nothing but condescension wrapped in a dental smock.

I’ve had some issues with my gums for as long as I can remember and my hygienist, GinaMarie, was so knowledgeable and was able to give me direction and put confidence in me that the problem can be fixed. She showed such care and compassion throughout the entire appt! I’ve 100% found my dental home!
