I had a very disappointing and unsafe experience at this office. It started with a rude interaction over the phone while making my appointment, and I was not informed that my pupils would need to be dilated. After driving myself there, I felt very uncomfortable driving home afterward but had no other choice. I believe patients should be informed in advance so they can make other travel arrangements. When I arrived, the front desk staff and nurse were pleasant, but the doctor’s care was unacceptable. I came in for a stye that had developed into a chalazion. Instead of discussing proper treatment options, the doctor forcefully squeezed and pushed on my eyelid with her fingers and a Q-tip in an attempt to “pop or drain” it. From everything I’ve read and been told, this is not an appropriate or safe method, as it can cause further irritation or spread infection. I had already completed a 10-day course of antibiotics, yet she tried to prescribe another. I declined the antibiotics and asked why I would need another course and she didn’t really have a good reason for it. My eyelid, which was not painful before the appointment, became sore and inflamed afterward due to the rough handling. It’s still sore now hours later. I left feeling worse than when I came in and very concerned about the standard of care here.

The eyewear department uses shaming and misleading information to cajole you into buying their glasses. The lady made it seem that ordering eyeglasses online was the most error prone, horrifying process imaginable. She said that "most websites will mess up your order by giving you the wrong lenses or poor quality lenses" when I expressed surprise at the high price of her glasses compared to reasonable prices online. Now having done more research, I talk to person after person who has had great experiences ordering online without the egregious messups the lady mentioned. She also said to me in a condescending tone, "This is just how much glasses cost, and you just have to get used to it. I'm actually really reasonable!" -- her cheapest frames are $125 (with lenses costing at minimum another $125), and reading on the "eyewear" section of Arleo's website, that is because the frames are "designer" (and of course they only tell you that the frames are designer on the website, not in-person). I don't buy anything designer in order to save money, so I'm bummed she used my newbie-ness and made me feel so much shame/fear-of-buying-online that I defeatedly gave up and got the glasses from her. Of course "all sales are final." Also when I was asking questions about saving money by reusing the lenses on a different frame, she said no because a person's prescription "will definitely change every year." However when I asked the eye doctor about this, the doc said that a farsighted child's prescription will probably be the same for her whole life. The glasses lady said multiple times she has 22 years of experience, so I am saddened she either didn't know this fact or was trying to manipulate.

I am a longtime patient of Arleo Eye Associates. I am also long certified for Quality Management in Service Applications by the nation's first quality organization, and during my full-time career, I was credited with creating and implementing the first quality management system in professional services in North America. With me, Arleo have an absolutely perfect record of friendliness, diligence, competence, successful outcomes, and clear and useful communication. No other healthcare delivery organization in my 74 years of life exceeds Arleo's performance.

Do NOT go here. The doctors are lovely and professional, but the desk staff are rude and unhelpful.
