I think it is funny that a facility that is supposed to help people with their eating disorders activity promotes and encouraged the smoking of cigarettes. They hand them out two at a time along with the clients lighter. Individuals in poor health are allowed to smoke. The nicotine alone in cigarettes is an appetite suppressant. Make it make sense. Then the client leaves addicted to cigarettes and it's left to the client and the family to break that addiction when it was learned behavior that smoking is the only way not to purge. This place is a joke and dangerous.

This place was awful and like the food was awful like poptarts and cocoo puffs. There was no healthfood. We threw parties lol like when the treatment team, who was bad weren't there. The rooms were o.k. but we couldnt go in them during day an people were passed out on the floor from being up all night. It was a joke n i really wanted my eating disorder fixed before college. Waste of money to go here they arent serious about helping people

I’ve struggled with my anorexia nervosa for many many years and this summer I spent about 7 weeks at Monte Nido Glen Cove. Though I will say it was a new facility so some kinks were still being worked out while I was there, Monte Nido has helped me immensely with my recovery and had me convinced every single day that this would be my last time in as intensive treatment as this. The majority of the recovery coaches were unbelievably caring, respectful, and understanding, with the exception of a few who are no longer working there. Throughout treatment at Monte Nido, I felt that my designated treatment team constantly had me in their best interest. My experiences with therapist Theresa were truly life saving and she deserves a huge round of applause. I think some of the kinks associated with the beginning of the facility may have been due to the clinical director who, though at times seemed to care, did not seem fit for the position and often did not make me (though I cannot speak for other clients) feel heard. Assistant Clinical Director Judy showed much more dedication, experience, and sympathy, and was thankfully one of the primary leaders of groups and one of the most prominent faces seen daily in the house. Again, I agree that the recovery coaches are extremely commendable. They listen, watch, understand, care, and work hard to form relationships with clients. Even Chef Aly played a very important role in my time at Monte Nido with her involvement and care for our lives and recoveries. Overall, my residential experience was life-saving. It saddens me to know that there are residents of the town who set out to close operation of the facility. I don’t know if they completely understand the seriousness of eating disorders and how detrimental they can be to not only the lives of those struggling with them, but also the lives of their loved ones. I hope that Glen Cove residents can find compassion for those in need of care and realize that eliminating a few extra cars ruining the “aesthetic” of the town is not worth risking lives and peoples’ ability to feel worthy of life and of something as basic as food.
