I'm flabbergasted by the high ratings this places gets and feel that many of these reviews are fake. I had my parent at this facility and got them out within a few days because it was so bad. I chose the place because it was close to my home, it got good reviews and the social worker at the hospital my parent was at was awful and literally called me one day and said my parent was going to be released in a few hours. No warning, nothing....even though I had told the SW that I needed help to find a facility to transfer my parent to after their time at the hospital was over and I didn't want to be left in the lurch. I wanted time to research places, maybe even go visit them, seek out some referrals....and I had no time to do that. First of all, if you go to the website, you'll see bright, updated, clean rooms and my parent's room was old and dirty.....water stains on the ceiling, a filthy remote control, a tv that didn't work, a bed from the 1950s. The bathroom stunk and was disgusting with diarrhea all on the sides of the bowl....looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in days. The first night I get a call that my parent is being disruptive....getting out of bed, banging on the wall, opening the window. I said, "How can that be? They were in a car accident and have multiple broken bones, a broken leg....how can they get out of bed?" "Well, that's what the roommate said." Did anyone see that? No. They said they'd "look into it". So, I knew I was dealing with a bunch of shady people. The staff speaks to each other in another language so you don't know what's being said which is rude. When I went to get a staff member to help lift my parent up in their wheelchair because they were sliding out, some young guy strolled over, looked totally bothered by the request and rolled his eyes. The last straw was when I was waiting for some paperwork to sign, a nurse (or member of the staff) was sitting with an elderly patient in the hall- I guess to keep an eye on him so he didn't fall. The old man was trying to chat with the staff member who was completely ignoring him because he was looking at his phone. After a few minutes, the old man got so upset that he was being completely ignored that he tried to get up and the staff member grabbed him and told him to sit down. He was really mean and definitely shouldn't have put his hands on the old man like he did. It was definitely unnecessary force. Oh, and EVERYONE is always on their phones.....do what you want during your breaks but sorry- you should not be on your phones when you're supposed to be working! When I saw all this, I told a nurse I was getting my parent out of there. Bottom line- take the good recommendations with a grain of salt. The pictures online are not a true representation of the place at all, most of the staff is completely indifferent to the patient's need- even negligent. Maybe this place is ok for someone who doesn't have a serious injury or who won't be there long but if your loved one is very ill and truly needs assistance, this place is not for you.

Rehab Review – A Welcome Change from Past Experiences This rehab experience has been significantly better than others we’ve encountered in the past. I want to sincerely thank some standout staff members who made a real difference in my mother’s care: • Enis, the nurse manager • Aileen, the social worker • Tammy, my mother’s favorite aide • Allen, the director • Barbara, her primary physical therapist • Rose, who cared for my mom the first week after her hospital discharge (which was last-minute). I hadn’t yet brought clothes for her, and Rose kindly found a hospital gown to make sure she was comfortable. Her compassion was deeply appreciated. • Trish, the night nurse during my mom’s initial admission, was also incredibly kind and attentive. • A weekday/weekend medication nurse whose name I sadly can’t recall—she went out of her way to offer help when my mother had a male aide and felt uncomfortable. That kind of care means everything. * Mom was readmitted a second time and the Nurse Manager Stephanie went above and beyond for us to try to help mom recover the 8 days she had left in her medicare short term rehab bank she is truly a sweet and compassionate person that cares about her patients. What truly sets this facility apart is the level of heart and compassion shown by these individuals. In environments like this, genuine care matters most. Another major plus: the range of daily activities. Compared to other facilities, this rehab offers far more engagement, including live music every Sunday, which my mother truly enjoyed. No facility is perfect, • rooms are dated- at first appearance equal first impressions. I admit I was worried when we arrived then rose and Trish calmed me with their compassion no other facility had staff that cared. -The only ice machine is kept in a locked closet that only staff can access. Staff have more important things to do. Get another ice machine so family can do this minor task. •Like many facilities, Cleaning staff needs improvement, it can sometimes smell like urine. •Like many facilities, there is often a 30-minute or longer wait to use the bathroom, especially during busy hours. Hiring more aides would go a long way in improving day-to-day care. Why This Rehab Stands Out This facility was a huge improvement over others we’ve encountered: • Daleview: I personally saw residents lying on the floor waiting for help. An aide forgot to lock my mom’s wheelchair wheels—she fell and reinjured her already broken shoulder and needed another surgery. • Grand Pavilion (Rockville Centre): Severely understaffed. My mother sometimes saw aides just 3–4 times a day. Her roommate, who was fully recovered, wasn’t discharged—likely because they wanted to keep billing her full rehab stay rather than take on a more complex patient. • Glen Garriff: While we didn’t go ourselves, I heard from others that being transferred out of Glen Garriff into Glen Cove it was a complete nightmare. Important Warning About 5-Star Facilities Don’t be fooled by 5-star ratings IF you have an elderly patient that might not recover it may not be for you. • Stern Rehab: If your parent isn’t progressing, they force discharge, even if Medicare days are left. They also do not help with Medicaid chronic care conversion they’ll likely push you out if it looks like your loved one won’t make it home. Final Thoughts Compared to all of that, this facility was a relief. It’s not perfect, but the compassionate care, consistent activities, and overall staff dedication made a meaningful difference. When placing a loved one, it’s not about shiny floors—it’s about people who actually care. And this rehab had them. There are a few bad reviews I'd like to address. There is a severe problem with hospitals discharging patients too soon, to rehab. one alarming review said something about fluid build up and their father passing away. If you feel like your loved one is being discharged from a hospital too soon put in a QIO 24 hours before predicted discharge.

Going on my third month at GCRNC. After researching inpatient rehab centers, i found Glen Cove Following spinal fusion surgery in NYC I arrived here While i’m not familiar with the nursing area , I have wonderful things to say about the nursing staff (Julie, Ennis, Rose just to name a few) exceptional rehab staff, exciting recreational staff, housekeeping, and helpful guest services I don’t expect 5 star Michelin meals nor 24/7 smiles I would recommend Glen Cove for inpatient rehab Unfortunately staffing may be an issue as patients can occasionally wait for assistance from the nursing aides. Administration is always available to hear concerns and compliments I feel like i am part of a family here

This is one of the best rehab facilities I have seen. Their care for my mother was caring, professional, and compassionate. From the administrative staff, nurses, aides, social worker, and clerk, everyone could not have done more for her care. Our family could not have been more satisfied. Five Stars in our book.
