I went to Planned Parenthood in New Jersey hoping to see an OB/GYN about a health concern. I am currently uninsured and between jobs, and all my research suggested that this would be a place where a woman in my situation could get assistance.
Unfortunately, that was not my experience. From the moment I entered, I felt judged and seemed to be categorized as someone who could pay full price. I explained that I don’t have insurance, am currently unemployed, and needed care for a potential urgent health issue.
Immediately, the front desk started quoting prices — $150 for a basic visit, with every additional test or procedure adding more. When I asked what the $150 covered, I was told, “I don’t know.” When I asked how much an ultrasound might cost, the answer was, “I don’t know, maybe $500+.” When I asked for a total estimate based on my reason for the appointment, the response was, “It could be absolutely any amount.”
Basically, I would have to pay the same as anywhere else — but in a waiting room that smelled like cigarette smoke and without clear information about the cost or what was included. This experience was disappointing and not at all what I expected from a clinic that advertises support for uninsured patients.
Disappointed in healthcare once again in general, but this place is not even what it supposed to be.
Basically, they want to charge you more than private urgent care would, but treat you like a stray dog who wondered in, searching for help. The front desk was absolutely rude and condescending, throwing dollar amounts at me that are more appropriate for a private OBGYN.
I walked out of this place, because I can go to absolutely any obgyn for about same price. But the office would be nice and clean, front desk pleasant and the doctor would have better reviews than 3 stars.

I went to this place twice & the first time I miscarried and had to get a d&c because the baby did not fully leave my body . One of the nurses was very rude and shouted my business in the lobby saying I was there for an abortion ti the point one of her co workers stepped in and said something to her.
The second time today , I walked in around 8:15 which online it says you can do walk ins as long as it’s within the first two hours and when I got there I was told that they are not taking walk ins and I should be present before they open if I want to do a walk in. This place is highly unprofessional in my opinion.

I normally see my primary care doctor in NYC, but due to their office being closed, I called Planned Parenthood first to confirm whether I could be seen as a walk-in. I was explicitly told yes, as long as I arrived before they closed at 1 PM.
I arrived at the Elizabeth location at 9:00 AM, and there were maybe eight people waiting. Almost immediately, Tanya abruptly informed me that they were not accepting walk ins and stated that her manager had supposedly told the hotline to stop sending people in. This was confusing and frustrating, because when I called the hotline back, the representative was shocked and stated they had not been informed that the Elizabeth location was no longer accepting walk ins.
Planned Parenthood is not a place I would normally go, as I have excellent insurance through my employer. Unfortunately, this experience showed me exactly why. The lack of communication, professionalism, and basic courtesy was disappointing, and the caliber of service reflected very poorly on the organization. Tanya looked like an older woman who is clearly unhappy with her career choice for her age. Here’s a tip go back to school it’s never to late!

I had to wait 2 hours even when I had an appointment for attention, they left me 1 hour inside the room without my clothes. Try to go to another place if you are looking for your annual visit, I didn’t even see a doctor, no gynecologist, only nurses.

I had an excellent experience with Leslie during my visit to Planned Parenthood. She was warm, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. Leslie took the time to explain every step of the process, answered all my questions without judgment, and made sure I felt comfortable and supported throughout my appointment. Her professionalism and compassion truly stood out.
Thank you, Leslie, for providing such thoughtful and respectful care. I genuinely appreciate the support you offered during a stressful time.
